I bought a cookie press and now I make perfectly formed sugar cookies and everyone I know is getting cookies for every major holiday until I get bored of this. Oh my God. This is the easiest thing in the world to use. Just add food coloring and you can make little green trees or blue snowflakes or pink hearts or whatever disc design there is! I even took excess cookie dough in different colors, rolled it all together and made multi colored fall leaves. I dye the dough because I lack the artistic vision to ice cookies and it seemed like an easy cheat.

My friends are like when did you turn into Martha Stewart?

Not every idea worked though. I'll be honest. I tried to make rainbow hearts, but... they came out like something from a Lisa Frank bakery instead, which wasn't what I was going for.

I'm very excited for Christmas this year! Well, I'm always excited for Christmas, but this year more than most. My fiancée and I are celebrating our first Christmas in the beautiful little house we bought over the summer, along with our furry critters, and I'm trying my hand at making my first pie ever. I will not be hostessing, but I always bring treats or food or both to my in-laws house. He got me a (frigging gorgeous) antique sewing machine, and I got him an antique typewriter. I'm interested to hear what others write about!

We suck at doing Christmas! My BF and I exchanged gifts already, lol. He bought me a new Carhart coat (which I needed badly). Wanted to get it early while the store still had a good selection of sizes and colors. I bought him new tires for his truck, which I made him order and have put on right away because we've had some snow already and safety ya know! I will wait 'til Xmas to wear the coat though, lol. :-D

Every year for the past three years I have made a Yule Log / Bûche de Noël and my family has really embraced this new Christmas Eve tradition. This year I am going all out with swiss brown mushrooms (Vanilla meringue with cocoa), holly leaves (made of chocolate), soil (crushed cookie) and moss (finely chopped pistachio) to decorate the log. I have a bit more time to dedicate to the log this year as I am staying with my grandmother for Christmas who is very unwell unfortunately. My SO must work through Christmas, but we are looking forward to spending New Year's together. I admire his dedication as he has worked extremely hard to reach the role he is currently in. His Christmas gift is a traditional french folding knife which I hope he will really like. Wishing you ladies all the best for the festive season :)

I'm Italian-American and hosting Christmas Eve, so it's going to be all fish! Here's the menu:

Shrimp cocktail
Steamed snow crab legs
Pan fried calamari with onions and potatoes
Fried baccala
Roasted salmon
Linguine with white clam sauce
Linguine with homemade tomato sauce (for my in laws who aren't clam eaters)
Clams oreganta
Homemade lemon tart

We are hosting 17 people. Me, my husband, my dad, my stepdad, my aunt, my grandma, my sister, my 3 nieces, my brother, my stepdad's parents, my sister and brother's mom (stepdad's ex-wife), and my stepdad's across-the-street neighbors and their elderly dad.

I am an absolute perfectionist when it comes to hosting and I've never done dinner for this many people. I have to start prep tomorrow. It will be a multi-course meal.

Prime rib
Salad with candied pecans, goat cheese and pomegranate seeds
Latkes
Butternut squash risotto
Roasted asparagus
Beer braised brussel sprouts
Garlic shrimp skewers

I'm doing three desserts:

Pioneer Woman's brandy snaps
Gingerbread brownies with cinnamon caramel
Rosemary shortbread cookies with lemon icing

I can't decide if I should also make pumpkin pie truffles.

Also, we went nuts with the gifts. Everyone will have at least 2 gifts to open from us, and we got the girls tons of stuff. They each have 2 stockings because all the little things wouldn't even fit in one stocking! The house is decorated and we'll be doing traditional Christmas stuff as well as lighting the menorah and saying the traditional Jewish blessing.

I'm so excited!! I love the holidays! I just want to wear pretty dresses and bake and watch The Sound of Music.

Also my husband and I are playing each other in the Super Bowl of our fantasy football league. I hope I win! Either way we're spending our winnings on a super fancy dinner at The French Laundry.

Home from the first round of festivities which was very nice and relaxing! We are getting together tomorrow with basically the same group of people, plus a few more, and more food! :-D

This may be late, but does anyone have gluten-free sugar cookie or baking tips? I recently discovered an allergy and it's a steep learning curve. No pastries or cookies for me this Christmas!
