First off let me say how thrilled I am to have found this community!! I used to feel like I was the only woman in the world who thought this way... Anywho, I need some advice. My mother in law has two very close friends that my husband and I see almost every time we visit his parents, who just love to make comments about my size. I’m very tiny and thin – always have been, always will be if I keep my exercise habits up. One of these friends is a hardcore feminist female friend who was left by her husband years ago, and the other is the husband of a very close family friend (a lovely, attractive, fit woman – so it isn’t like he needs to cull favor with her by insulting other women). My question is: When these people make comments about my weight, or as in one case, literally refer to me as “Skinny Minnie” in my own wedding guest book... what do I say? I don’t want to be rude, especially since this is not my immediate family and I would never want to embarrass my husband, but dammit, these people are being rude! I cannot sit there and smile – so what’s a polite way to get these people to back off?
