Weekly Self-Reflection Thread: 30/11/2015

It's been a looong week but I've managed to stay positive! I'm happy that I didn't procrastinate on the things that had to be done: my course work for exams; my research project. I was really happy when my supervisors appreciated the presentation I helped prepare for the workshop because they knew how busy it is with finals season!

I've also recently been on a couple of dates with a very great guy. I feel so at ease with him and feel really good about where things could go. Even before we met he was clear about his intentions and stated that an ltr is his goal. I've been enjoying getting to know him and everything has been going at a nice pace. He is coming back from the states soon and I honestly can't wait! I know not to get too excited but I really can't help it! :)

As for health I slacked a bit because of studying but I watched what I ate and did do a lot of walking and a bit of yoga last week. This week I will be back up on my cardio and lifting game! :)

I didn't go crazy from not cooking over Thanksgiving! I instead sat in the kitchen and chatted with my SOs mom for the majority of the time. But I didn't set the table, either. Someone else got that.

I've also relaxed a bit more, but the holiday really made that easy, we'll see if I can handle the whole week that way.

My next goal is to work out everyday this week.

I finished my sons mittens this weekend! I feel super accomplished, and am now working on a hat for him and mittens for my SO.

I feel like I could've been more positive this week, but there's always this week. I am also super sad that my SO is out of town for the next month, but it also gives me time to work on gifts for him for Christmas.

I need to work on allowing my SO to get me things. I am very grateful for everything he buys me but I am still having troubles accepting the gifts. I am so used to never being spoiled so I am having a really hard time with someone who thinks I deserve to be spoiled, but I am working on it.

I got back on the wagon this week with my diet AND my yoga in spite of Thanksgiving. So I am really proud of that. This week I'm preparing to go away for vacation so I want to focus on not driving myself crazy with the details. I want to just let things unfold and to accept that vacation is NOT a chore. :)

the holiday weekend had me out and about, cooking up a storm, and enjoying life. however, my introversion clearly needs me to restore, so i have taken today as a rest day. no work, no working out, no yoga. just cleaning a little around the house, doing some laundry, and mostly rest. i am even having my groceries delivered in an hour as i do not seem to have the strength to go outside or drive. i feel exhausted and a bit in pain everywhere. restorative time is best today.

tomorrow i will head back to the gym, do some hot yoga, go to an appointment, and pick up my assignment for work.

I've been writing things down lately, but I'll post a TLDR version here :)

Self-reflection:

Even though it feels like i didn't get distracted much, something in my time management went amiss; nearly pulled an allnighter to finish project
A bit overwhelmed with workload, but must keep in mind that it's all the 'good' kind of busy!
Didn't shit-test this week, feeling better in that regard, had some good times with boyfriend over and made him some food. Very thankful for his awesomeness.
You need to write things down, always...had a small incident because I forgot about something
Missed 3 days of gym. Worst yet. You could have still done a quick 5-10 min HIIT at home!
You let things go and get into bachelorette mode; too much cleaning had to be done on Friday as a result and you lost a lot of time. just put aside 15 min to tidy up each morning and your life will be easier. do a thorougher clean on sunday mornings
Don't use that stupid powder you bought (boyfriend hates it, looks so cakey. i hate it too lol but for some reason i feel bad bringing it back...). glominerals, if anyone is wondering...has great reviews but i'm really disappointed :/ going back to just dotting on MAC's prolongwear concealer on the occasional zit and undereye bags

Goals:

Get back to your morning routine where you exercise FIRST
watch time management, watch cleanliness...at least 15min per day
Sleep regular hours
No reddit or distractions, keep it off and catch up every monday on news and posts etc.
Watch Xmas spending, it's already more than your budget allows!!!

I read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. Though it was a bit too spiritual for me, I managed to get the main points for my own use. What I got from the book was that my mind and thoughts are not really "me" unless I identify with them. And by not identifying with them, the thoughts will simply pass through. The problem with my mind and thoughts sometimes is that they bring more negativity than positivity in my life. When I am truly happy and at peace, I notice that I'm truly in the moment, the Now, and it's not my mind that feels the love! It's somehow within me. My mind and thoughts only act as a barrier at times, from truly developing real relationships. My mind judges, speculates, brings up the past, worries about the future... even when I don't want to... when I should really just be enjoying the Now. I'm trying to use this principle to help me be more at peace with myself and live in the present.
my boyfriend and I talked about our goals and desires. we're in a long term relationship and after watching an episode in HIMYM where Lily and Marshall split because Lily has other goals and desires. Both of our ambitions include each other so I'm glad that we talked them out earlier before it gets into a bigger mess!
we've been learning to play tennis together! it forces us to wake up earlier than we normally would so it regulates our sleeping schedule
i'm getting better at this house keeping thing... mopping isn't as bad as it used to be hahaha

goals:

eat more mindfully and be aware of portions
start looking for internships
be more soft!!! be his soft place to land

finally not sick!! thank God.

My goal for this week:

Work out every weekday, either at 6am or immediately after I get home.
Keep my house in top shape, regardless of my day. I sometimes leave dishes in the sink when I'm tired, etc. I want to have my house spotless just for the sake of it.
Increase water intake to 96oz a day, at minimum.
Start on my 90 Day Proverbs 31 Wife challenge :D
Study for finals next week.

The Good:

Managed to get homework/studying done in time to spend more time with the family this week
House is clean, and successfully negotiated the purchase of the vacuum I wanted at a price he was happy with (Shark Navigator Lift Away Pro, $140/free ship on Amazon, if anyone is in need - is fantastic!)

The Bad:

I need to get better at finding my zen with my daughter - she's 11 going on 18 and driving me crazy with the foot stomping/sighs/etc. It drive the Mister nuts listening to us bicker, and I don't blame him. I need to learn to pick my battles better.
Need to find a way to keep my stress with school separate from the stress he's dealing with (we're renovating a condo; he's a contractor, therefore he's doing most of it himself)
Still haven't gotten our tax stuff started, and I have the whole year to do because we've both been putting it off.

To-Do:

Find better ways to keep him comfy when he gets home - need to buy more dinner stuff that I can have ready as soon as he walks in/showers.
SOS plan - finals week in two weeks, I already know my stress level is going to be high and I need to keep it from affecting the rest of the household.
The darn taxes. I've got to just DO it, it's just data entry.

So I finally figured out the proper exercise model for me. Now I only need to stick to that, lol.

November was a no-sugar month for me and I'm so happy I managed that. It also opened my eyes to the amounts of sugar we eat without even noticing it.

I'm ENFP so staying positive is fairly easy for me, and adding the Christmas feels to that I've been just a real bundle of joy. I've had to actually tone down my excitement few times because not everybody gets high on Christmas spirit.

I also started messaging this guy, who I had a crush 8 years ago. I asked him out to have coffee with me back then and he just blatantly told me no. It was a huge disappointment back then. We met on Tinder accidentally few weeks ago, and I just had to ask him if he remembered me. Turns out, he used to be really shy and awkward back then, but now offered to take me out. So we're having coffee or something this weekend. We've had nice text conversations already, and he mentioned laughing that he definitely has made a mistake 8 years ago. I'm excited to see if this could turn into something. If not, at least I finally get to have my coffee with him after 8 years of waiting, lol.

This week/next week I'm going to wrap up my work, next week is the last week that I'll work before Christmas, I hope, and then I'm heading to my parents place to help with cooking and cleaning and wrapping presents and all that. It's awesome, me and my mom love to be together like that, it's our quality time!

edit// I forgot to mention that I'm finally paying the last bit of car dept next week, and I'm super excited. It has been kind of tough year financially, but I've managed and I'm so proud of myself.

If I don't write out my whole day, in 30 minute blocks, I will not achieve nearly as much. So the challenge is to always - ALWAYS - plan out the whole day.
