Who should pay?

Why are most of your dates at his house? The answer kinda hinges on that. If you're a homebody and would rather go to his home than out on the town, it's kinda different than if he doesn't want to take you anywhere.

I personally think a young woman should not deliver herself on a silver platter like this, especially at an early stage in a relationship. If he isn't investing effort or resources in the way you are, you're setting yourself up for heartbreak after a year as his plate.

Ultimately, it’s really up to the values that every couple has how they choose to approach this. For what it’s worth, here’s what captain and I do.

We split equally most of the time time since we are both financially independent. If he or I offers to pay, the other sees it as a gift - a gesture and reminder that we’re here to take care of each other. We rarely go on lavish dates (not our style) but when we do, my captain pays. It’s part of the experience for both of us. He likes the feeling of taking his woman out, and I like the feeling of being treated and courted.

For me having to pay for a date is a huge turn off... I like the feeling of being cared for and most guys I dated love caring for a beautiful woman. :)

Personally I think if you are going to see him and you don't have a car, then you are responsible for your own cab fare. Same for him if he's coming to see you. If you had a car and drove to see him would you expect him to pay for the gas?

If you are both riding together then I see nothing wrong with either sharing the fare or switching off who pays at each ride.

Could be me though. I am not of the mindset that men should always be the ones paying for everything and I actually enjoy paying.

My husband paid for literally every outing. We're both very traditional, but he was also in oil and I was working as a half time librarian and substitute teaching. He always wanted big expensive dates, so he got to fund them. I'd occasionally make him dinner or bring him a picnic at a park near his rig. I regularly drove to see him an hour away, paying for my own transportation. We, however, never ever went Dutch, nor did I pay. It worked for us. I think you just have to find your own balance. There is no rule.

If you're usually going to his place, I don't think it's unreasonable to split the cost of transport.

When my husband and I started dating he paid for everything. It was him taking me out on dates, not vice versa. For transport, I would usually catch the subway to see him, and he would pay for my cab home.
