Why be a "plate?"

Is it that women who are plates don't know that they are plates?

I suspect it's more that they rationalize (hamster) away the fact that they're plates, tell themselves they'll change him, that he just has to realize she's the best match for him. Some of them are probably genuinely oblivious, but I'd put money on the fact that they're a minority.

It's a matter of priorities, really. Some women would rather share a high value man than have a lower value one all to themselves. It's a tenuous position to be in (since he'll presumably keep having access to younger, hotter women and one runs the risk of being replaced), but some women will value prestige (of being with a high value man they have to share) over stability.

ETA: The RPW stance is that this is a bad gamble that you're 99.9% of the time going to lose... just playin' a little devil's advocate.

While we don't advocate being a plate, there can be a benefit to it if you aren't the jealous type and he is an EXTREMELY high value man. I mean Brad Pitt high value, Prince of Monaco high value, not guy at the gym high value. With super high value men, commitment is often tenuously and eventually bestowed on the plate that stuck it out, was the least trouble and the most fun. If a man is high value enough and you're a gambler, that's usually the only way to get him

They think of it as just dating casually like you said, except that our society has taught them that sex doesn't have to mean anything or be a big deal at all so they are dating casually, but with sex. That's how they think of it, and they mostly think it is pretty normal.

Plates often don't realize that's what they are, sometimes they don't care because they have multiple hook-up options....and sometimes they think they can change the man.

I would never recommend becoming a plate, or being intimate without commitment.

I would guess it's about emotion. In many cases they start dating a guy casually, get attached emotionally, and then just can't let go because they think they have some special connection and believe he will figure it out and reciprocate her feelings and they will live happily ever after. I don't know anyone who has been a plate where it's only exclusive on one side, always there's a "favorite" guy but they'll sleep with other people if they feel like it, but really often feelings develop for their first pick.

I also married my first boyfriend, so I'm not for sure this is right, but from what I gather it's based on the 'I can have it all' mentality. Girls are essentially being told what a fun adventure sleeping with a variety of men is. They explore and find out about their sexuality when they are young and work on their careers, and worry about settling down and having a family later. Not that they never want a boyfriend, but why bother when they can just experiment with zillion guys before then. Of course, red pill women don't support that mentality.

It works better for getting women, especially if they know they are. Preselection's one hell of a drug, most of male smv is what they can convince you of. If you married your first boyfriend I assume he took your virginity,only one ect; that gives him a special smv niche. He's not competing with 100 other half remembered dicks waiting to suddenly become idealized whenever you're pissed off. Imagine yourself in that position though, no guy stays looking that special. Then you meet this random guy able to hold onto several women some maybe hotter than you or hold attributes you respect. Same question starts spinning the hamster, wtf's special about him, why else would these women do this, he must be awesome. Now smv of the women he's banging are adding to his smv. If a guy gets that going, it can snowball. I suppose men would be vulnerable to this trick, but on an animalistic base attraction level, man whoring doesn't have the same disgust factor men get from women doing the same. Getting cuckolded isn't exactly a winning evolutionary strategy for men; women it's more workable, you're damn sure the kids yours :p

Guess it's not such a raw deal for career women with no child plans; they get their af, and if they can stay in the guys bed the rest of their lives, complaining about commitment seems silly. Maybe he'll get tired of it and pick one to knock up and start a family. The messed up part is their's really no reason to drop them aside from dealing with crazy. Crazy generally being rooted in thinking a guy who's got that going has any reason to change it.

For women I don't see the point. It is the same as friend zoned guys for women. Both are not getting all they wanted but they get a little bit of attention from high SMV people.

I don't think any guy would knowingly admit someone he was with as a "plate". I think it follows to reason that most women don't know they're being spun. It's just a matter of knowing what you want and going for it.
