Following a long monk mode last year I slipped back into unhealthy, and unproductive ways.. This is the first part of my plan to get back on track
Heath
-- Alcohol
I have relied on Alcohol for a long time to hack extroversion and make socializing and picking up girls easier. I know these are not good reasons to sacrifice my health and so whenever I do drink I feel guilty for it.
The Plan: Stop Drinking as of July 12th 2017
-- Nutrition
I don't think I am alone in developing an interest in nutrition as a way to compensate for all the damage I have done to my body by way of recklesness.
My priority in terms of nutrition and all other aspects of health is to keep my brain functioning optimally.
I'd also like to put on some weight, and keep my bones, joints, and skin healthy. Fortunately this mostly just means eating more of the foods which are good for my brain.
The Plan:
Supplements:
These are the supplements I researched and took for ~4 months last year, with the exception of creatine monohydrate which I took for about a month while exercising until my face got too bloated. When I have the money I will start supplementing with these again and review after a few months.
-
Multivitamins - For obvious reasons
-
Magnesium Threonate - Magnesium is widely studied and proven to be important in brain, bone, and joint health. From what I understand Magnesium Threonate is unique in its ability to cross the blood brain barrier compared to other forms of Magnesium.
-
Fish oil - Another all-rounder. Notably, the fats in fish oil are the same fats used to make up the Myelin Sheath which functions to speed up and increase the quality of electrical signals being sent along the brains cells.
-
Probiotics - Gut health has been linked to brain health.. I'm not totally convinced about the science behind this but am happy enough just to keep my gut healthy.
-
Circumin - Anti inflammatory. Apparently lots of brain benefits. Good for joints too.
-
Ceatine Ethyl Ester - Creatine has been linked to increased energy levels in the brain, and athletes who were taking creatine at the time of a head injury recover faster. The Ethyl Ester version is more easily absorbed, leading to less 'creatine bloat' caused by water accumulation outside the target cell.
Food:
I think with just these two changes I can increase the quality of food I am eating, as well as save a lot of money and time.
- Stop eating out
- Cook in batches
-- Exercise
Recently, because of drinking, I have not been in the state of mind to exercise as much as I'd like. In a couple of days I will get back to the gym. I am also going to incorporate yoga and cardio into my routine for the brain benefits. Such as increased oxygenation and peace of mind.
The Plan: Lift / cardio / yoga twice a week each
-- Sleep
No explanation needed
The Plan:
- Chamomile or similar close to bedtime
- Shower before bed
- Use sleep tracker app
- Aim for 8 hours
- Aim for same time daily
