I've read about GitHub more than a few times here so I figured you'd all find this interesting. It's an event on the 22nd which intends to impose censorship on open source code that does not belong to them.

In-case you don't know: A pull request is a way to request a code change be added to somebody else's repository of code (it's up to the owner of the code repository to allow or deny the proposed changes). A programmer comment is a short note left in code that can only be read in the source code, people using the software never see programmer comments. So what this entire event is going to do is send useless pull requests to police the language in the comments of programmers that are volunteering their time to do something for free.

He says it's not censorship, but yet it IS censorship. Things like beer, harsh language, late nights debugging, etc are all a part of the computer programming culture. To give you an idea of how programming culture is: Codebases like the linux kernel which runs most of the servers in the world and has millions of lines of code, has hundreds of swear words and even the man who owns the kernel is known to use colorful language but it's all in good fun, nobody takes it seriously.

So because of the fact that this guy is able to do a search on GitHub for specific swear words he thinks this entitles him to impose rules onto other people's codebases that he neither cares about nor contributed anything to. This is the exact same thing as looking up offensive language on google and then emailing every website you found in the search results to censor their language because "somebody might find it and be offended".

Let me tell you, young kids aren't looking through this code for fun and neither are women. 99% of programming is a adult male space, and this idiot wants to change computer programming culture all because it might offend groups of people that are not interested in it. Wow.
