Summary: Say you are training for something, e.g. a team sport, and nobody will further question your motives for your new lifestyle

Body:

We all know that women don't want you to change. They've put you in a Beta bin and in a Beta bin they want you to stay. It's easy for the freshly-unplugged to ignore this because hey, the anger phase is pretty powerful for motivation.

However, your friends don't want you to change either. If you suddenly start eating healthily and working out, especially if you suggest that you want to cut the drinking and eating junk food with them, they will try and claw you back like crabs in a barrel.

Why?

They feel guilty about it. Sure, they could do the same, but there's nothing driving them to do so. Instead, they see you getting better each day and decide that instead of supporting you to reach your goals that they should tell you that you are "fine the way you are".

What's a man to do?

The most effective method of shutting down this negative chat during my first monkmode from girls, my friends and my family was to say I was training for my team sport's next season. This gives everyone the rationalisation they need to not have to worry about you getting better because they don't play said sport. They can't keep saying you shouldn't train because now you are being a noble team-mate who is trying to increase the team's performance.

If you've ever struggled with gains goblins, try this technique. Every time I've used it I've shut down any negative comments instantly.

P.S. Make sure you still hang out with your guy mates, learning good banter with a good group of lads is the essence of passing shit tests.

Lessons learned:

  • People only care about themselves, if they don't feel guilty because they are not involved in the reason you are training, they don't feel guilty and stop with the negative comments.
  • Play a team sport.
