Women already study and work in STEM fields in droves. Nobody notices these women because they are almost all Asian/Indian and a large percentage are foreign-born.

It's honestly insulting how feminism conveniently ignores how many success stories there are with women in tech just because they are immigrants or Asian/Indians in general. My family was able to come to the US solely because my mom knew how to code and her company was able to sponsor a visa. Almost all my Asian and Indian friends have working mothers who all have good careers as engineers.

Even in HS/college, there are a fair amount of STEM-minded women, it's just that they're mostly all Asian/Indian, or if they're white they're far below average in looks. No one is ever going to be successful at convincing attractive women to work in tech when the alternatives are so much easier, and it only reinforces the fact that feminism in the US is just about liberal, upper-middle class white women.

Oh guys, this is actually hilarious, and nothing to worry about.

Where I live, coding is one of the highest paying jobs. Having said that, many people, men and women at one point of life, think that sitting in the front of computer and solving latency issues between different levels of cache is something everybody can do. So every now and then, I get inquiries from that kind of people asking on direction how to start coding.

It usually boils down to, me sending them some books and links and them asking: "Do we really need to read all that?!?!", to which my reply is: "This is only the beginning and you not only have to read it, but understand it and run examples as well". Then they decide that dog training classes are much better bet (and they bail out those too).

Coding lessons are drop in the sea. 99% of women will go through the class and just forget about it. Trust me.

The solution is not to make women want to join the industry for financial reasons, it is to show men that there's no difference between genders when it comes to technical roles and harbouring ill will will indefinitely prevent growth in the industry.

And again, they advocate that it's not the women, who have to improve, it's the men who should adjust their minds. "Men are failing us", etc.

I love how everything is a "problem". If men want to do something and not women "it's a problem" and if white people (and Asians) want to do something and not non-white(or Asian)s, then "it's a problem", of course everything is a problem when you're just looking for excuses to use social engineering to "solve" something.

You can already learn programming for free, there are tons of free resources, some from very reputable universities.

Google does it so they have more cheaper workers, so they don't have to pay $80k for junior devs and $250k+ for senior.

To be fair, the opportunities are being offered to minorities as well. I don't think it's so much a "gurl pwr" thing as it is a "everyone except white males" thing.

No women are complaining that they can't get into tech. Feminists are only complaining that there aren't enough women in tech. Women are not uniquely beneficial to have in a tech company. They offer nothing special. The vast majority of women have shown that they just aren't interested in tech, so why is there a push to force them in?

I think it stems from the primal female instinct to invade and control male spaces. We've already seen isolated cases of feminist hyenas trying to exert control in tech (see: dongleberries) and in some cases they've actually managed to redecorate the space to conform to their own personal tastes. But by and large tech remains a male-dominated space and feminists realize that unless they can get the number of women over 30-40% they will be unable to dumb it down and institute draconian policies designed to give them as much power as possible over their male coworkers.

Ultimately the only way to maintain the integrity of a space is to keep women out of it.

In the comments a woman STEM gives her two cents on why even equality isn't fair. I'm not kidding.

As a woman in engineering I honestly don't see how the situation for women in STEM fields is going to improve unless there are, well, more women in STEM fields. It's a horrible cycle, and if Google wants to try fixing it by throwing money at it, I say good on them. Treating everyone the same doesn't actually help make everything equal, and if you want examples of that I'd be happy to share some experiences.

Oh wait it gets even better. Someone asks her to share her experience. Feminism certainly has bred a culture of fear.

I had a problem with being stalked in grad school. It was bad in undergrad, but it had really become unbearable when I moved to the CS department for more advanced classes. Then my grad lab (key-access only, 24/7) was converted into a general-purpose open lab-- this meant I had no place to go to safely study or make use of school equipment off-hours.

I went to my grad department to ask for access to a locked lab for safety, and was denied because they refused to give me 'special privileges' because of my gender. This was particularly infuriating because I only needed this access because of my gender, which made me a frequent target for harassment.

I went next to my undergrad department, and had barely gotten into my argument for my needs when the department head granted me access to every single locked lab of theirs on campus-- even though I wasn't even technically enrolled in their program anymore. His reasoning was that every single student should feel and be safe at school, and he found it stunningly obvious that a female student would have different needs for that criteria than a male student.

Treating everyone equally doesn't actually create an equal environment. Sometimes you have to account for the real-world differences.

There are plenty of other alternatives to getting an exclusive lock lab proxy card. Go work with friends. Carry mace. File a fucking police report if the stalking is that bad. Self empowerment takes effort but it removes your reliance on others.
