These mindset based posts, such as the above on the ego are so key not only for spiritual growth but for the benefit of anything, fitness, game.

What does it matter how much pussy you get if you aren't aware of your "self" and your ego, to me that's worse than being a beta.

Humility is key, even if you are a 6'4" ripped god that fucks 10's every day, humility is KEY.

Great post. I don't know if anyone here has tried bufo alvarius (5meoDMT) but it causes a complete dissolution of the ego for about 15-20 minutes, dissolves all the separation and lets your consciousness become one with the entire universe. It's not something you can easily explain unless you actually do it but it's changed my life, showed me that I'm creator of my own universe through my ego.

Its a bit off the wall for TRP but I'm tempted to do a post about it because the lessons it provides are so aligned with the principles here, that everything is temporary, you shouldn't give a fuck about anything, and you should take full responsibility for your life.

Thanks for this. In my pre-RP days I was much more into creative endeavors and spirituality. The discovery of ego vs self, and the concept of resistance (I read the Pressfield book too!) were vital in helping me overcome some really bad depression in my teens.

Ffwd to my discovery of TRP and all of the constant judgment and evaluation of AF/BB dynamic, social status, Machiavellianism, etc. just had me going down a nasty path of jadedness and distaste toward it all.

I'm still new to this RP stuff but I can't help but feel like getting back into operating more from/for my 'self' and also being more observant of my ego will do wonders in helping me to accept it all more gracefully.

This couldn't have come at a better time for me. Thanks for this post bro

Meditation has helped me to discover when my ego acts up, however, habit and routine causes the resistance to act WITH IT AS OPPOSED TO against it. I'm slowly trying to change this chain. Thanks for the post.

Just remember that ego is a kind of I Don't Give A Fuck thing.

Too much of not giving a fuck and you become a Nihilist.

Too little of not giving a fuck and you are beta and overly needy for approval.

Arrogance comes from ancient words that mean "to ask" or "to claim" something, so it's essentially saying you want your liberty.

Liberty means freedom to act... it's not asking permission because thinking separate from the herd is assumed as a right.

Ego aligned with free thought and free speech that leads to your freedom of action (liberty) is a good thing.

Approaching a woman requires:

Freedom of thought (ego)
Freedom of speech
Freedom of action (liberty)

Without an independent ego none of this is possible.

I dont get why any and all text on personal or spiritual topics needs to be voodo level esotherics. Take the thing about lifting for example. You can dispell the Ego with 3 simple steps of logic.

People in shape are usually healthy.
People in shape usually have more muscle. A man is supposed to be buff and healthy.
I am a man.
Therefore I should be buff and healthy.

Thats the first step, then you just take the TRP advice that you dont fucking matter as a person in this world, you are no special snowflake who deserves special treatment. Why should it be OK to not be in shape for you? If things change, if the world collapses, if you end up alone, nobody else will be there for you. So your health and and muscle is an existential prerequisite, we just have a layer of civilization protecting you from reality. Thats step nr 2.

Then step nr 3 is simple X or Y, if you could be buff or a slob, what would you chose? Everybody would chose to be a greek god of muscle. So why chose to be a slob?

This aligns well with my views, I always strive to show through my actions not my words... but this has worked against me in the past being categorized as "quiet" and in a previous company being told that I did not voice my accomplishments and wants enough, in other words did not bring my ego out enough.

Lately I have been dealing with a similar situation where someone's ego is all out and about and taking all the attention, I am being told to follow this person's lead because of their ego talk they give the impression of "better results".

How do you deal with something like that?

Also, another great way to silence the ego and feel your true self is to be away from things that give you an endorphin rush such as phones, tv, sugary foods, and drugs. You'll feel A LOT of resistance.

It's possible to have an ego and still think other people can be greater than yourself and keep an open mind while listening and learning. There's no problem thinking you're an awesome person, it's a good thing.

Hey I just finished the book Ego Is The Enemy too, today actually. In the ending interview, I recall him saying he is content with his amount of success. He was driven to write books, but not so much to the extent of wanting more material wealth than he needs (although he probably does have a ton of money);

What I was curious about after reading the book was how to balance passion, confidence and daydreams with humility and realism. I recall being wrapped up in the "law of attraction" which worked to some degree, but made me overbearing and egotistical. I also remember how material success only comes to the people who pursue it relentlessly, like in "Think and Grow Rich". You have to imagine you are a millionaire and that it is possible for you or you'll never get it and never try. Then I read the same thing with Donald Trump's "Think Big and Win At Life"- who knew that 10 years later he would run for president, and win? However, how do you keep yourself from thinking too big yet staying humble? This is something I am trying to balance or wrap my mind around. There are people like Toby Fox who remain humble yet are blown away by the success of their creation. There's people like J.K Rowling who believe in Harry Potter so much she could handle rejection after rejection. Is this ego and overconfidence? Or is it humility? Should we have some ego to drive us to try something new? Or should we use humility and reject the world around us (validation/ negative feedback or positive feedback) and pursue what we believe in?

The key is to be aware that you are not your thoughts, you are the one listening to them and choosing whether or not to act on them is what allows you to control your ego. When something pisses you off, your mind fills with angry thoughts. Instead of saying I'm angry, be aware of your thoughts and instead think, I'm feeling angry. Huge difference.
