If she leaves, it doesn't mean she's a gold-digger, but if you don't care for marriage it does mean that you were both incompatible all along, so it's still a beneficial outcome. You end up screening out gold-diggers and commitment-seekers and increase the odds of ending up with someone who likes you for you and has compatible views on marriage.

I think there is a subset of people out there for who MGTOW is the optimal way to go and it all comes down to expectations. I have a couple surgeon buddies that are kind of badasses and very good looking. They want the best chick out there and won't settle for anything less. So they end up trying to get with these chicks that are 10s who will adore them as an alpha right away. Now they have an outside shot and are able to spin plates without an issue, but even for them this hasn't worked into an LTR that lasts. There's a wealth of information already here on this, but it's up to you to comb through it. An Excel spreadsheet is a great way to actually make a record and monitor improvements. Some appearance ideas: generally you can overcome to some extent not being handsome by being rugged and masculine. Try cultivating some sort of facial hair and dress in dark colors. Get buff if you can and lean a martial art so you can walk with confidence.
A lot of women enjoy the bald bearded look. It looks nice in a suit too. Use hats to your advantage. Beard plus tobagen looks great and also a nice ballcap. Get some severe boots like red wings.

At 5'5" you will need a body. I have a friend thats about 5'5" but has a top tier body, like almost fitness magazine quality (not total lean body builder), and he has the hottest girlfriend I have ever seen in my life. A french blonde girl who moved to the US as a kid. She is flatout amazing. The dude is 5'6" max but does have hair.
