I've been lurking here for several months, done my sidebar homework, contributed a few career related comments.
I'm married and dealing with many of the failures a BP mindset has led to in the relationship -- however, the fun of raising kids keeps me engaged and sticking around. Ultimately, though, I may leave. Things aren't good. But this is not about me.
When I look around and look at questions of happiness, over and over again, I see that married men are reported as happier, healthier, less stressed, and live longer lives.
Then I read TRP about how all LTRs are doomed, and the secret to happiness is a self-focused physically fit, plate-spinning emotionally disconnected existence. I can clearly see the appeal as a young man, and for short term happiness. A young man recently posted about the listlessness and disenchantment he was feeling. Spiritual emptiness.
Practice emotional distancing long enough, and you lose the ability to connect, I suppose.
This dichotomy keeps me from buying in whole-heartedly to the TRP philosophy. What would you say to convince me otherwise? Where is the evidence of long term happiness?
