This rant is less than well defined... I dont' really know where I'm going with it, but it's been bouncing around my head for a while. Maybe someone here can turn it into something coherent.
So, every day for lunch, you eat a sandwich. It's two pieces of stale white bread with shit in between them. When you were a kid in school, it's what your mother packed you. In high school, it's what the cafeteria served. Now you're a grown man packing your own lunch every morning, and you make yourself a shit sandwich, because that's what you have for lunch, right? It's not like you're the only one. Most people eat a shit sandwich for lunch.
A shit sandwich.
One day you realize your sandwich tastes like shit. maybe it's because you got food poisoning, maybe a friend who was eating something else brought it to your attention. Either way, you start asking around, inquiring to your friends, family, and coworkers about the fact that this sandwich is awful.
Your mom tells you that this shit sandwich is good for you, and that it will ultimately lead you to happiness. After all, your father has eaten them for years. It doesn't smell like happiness to you, but whatever.
You coworkers just tell you to shut up and eat it. You aren't going to win this fight. Just eat your lunch and keep quiet.
Your female coworker tell you it isn't a shit sandwich, you're just over-reacting. You aren't quite sure about that, but when you press the issue she simply says that even if it IS a shit sandwich, you probably deserve it.
Finally, you find a place on the internet that has recipes for tasty lunches. It's clearly way more work than making a shit sandwich, but the results can't be argued. You start making new and exciting lunches for yourself. Your health improves and all that fun stuff.
Things seems great, as long as you don't mention it to anyone. Sure, you can't talk about lunch to other people one the website, but trying to discuss lunch recipes, or even revealing that you decided not to eat the shit sandwich anymore, is met with judging and harsh words. You are berated for hating sandwiches and sandwich makers, etc.
And it doesn't really make sense. so you just keep your nice lunch to yourself and go about your business. Is that right? You don't know, but all you know is you can't go back to the shit sandwich again.
That's all I've got... perhaps the idea sounded better in my head, but whatever.
