I cam across an interesting video the other day while on tik tok. It was a podcaster describing what is called the "Region Beta Paradox".

You can consider Beta the zone of mediocrity. On the left side of beta is what is analgous to "bad" or "hell", while on the right side of beta is "good" or "alpha". The more "right" you travel the closer you are to your ultimate goal state.

These terms have nothing to do with the manosphere fyi, just what the author of the paradox found. The fundamental premise of the paradox is that its better to be in hell than in mediocrity because hell will actually cause you to take action to eventually enter an alpha state. Beta states inhibit action.

The beta zone is essentially the zone of mediocrity that people will fall into. It is a paradoxical zone because people have a much easier time transitioning into an Alpha state when they are "worse off" than beta, than while actually being in beta.

A non dating example could be that you have a job that makes just enough money to pay bills rather than starting your own business or working in a job that is triple your current salary. You stay in beta because its "good enough". The day to day isnt bad enough to force you to actually study for an interview or work on a business because you have no other choice.

This brings us to dating apps. I think me and many other guys fall into region beta when it comes to dating, and its primarily caused by apps. I will get matches with girls that are "kind of" attractive. I rarely match with true 8s or above, and when I do, they generally go nowhere. Ive maybe gone on dates with less than 5 true 8s or above for the lets say 3 active years Ive been on apps. Ive probably gone on 50 plus with 5-7 range girls.

Why is this an issue? Well, you and I arent actually that attracted to these 5-7s. They are "good enough". I see 8 pluses around me all of the time everyday in public. I dont actually approach because I have a very easy fallback, which is dating apps.

The fact that I know I can get with "app girls" with relative ease makes me much less likely to socialize with women (and people) in general in real life. If I didnt have this constant pool of 5-7s, Id be forced to actually approach women I find attractive in real life or cultivate a social circe good enough for me to access these women.

Ive seen the argument on here to attempt to master dating apps or just use them as an additional means to other avenues of dating. If you can do this, all power to you. I personally dont think I can because it always gives me a "plan b".

Let me know what you guys think about this. Would like thoughts from everyone
