The main point is that I went back to a ladies home, she was pretty wasted, I mean stumbling wasted. We started making out, but because I was sober I just couldn't seal the deal. The circumstances to my first lay in a year just weren't to my liking so I opted out.

Good on you for opting out, she's not your problem - don't babysit these children in a woman's body. I don't know if it's legit advice to give or just me being irrationally paranoid, but I would just avoid going back to a drunk chick's place altogether. There's very little that can go right and a metric fuck ton that can go wrong.

It really got me thinking about gaming when alcohol is involved. I'm just curious as to what everyone else's opinion is on gaming with booze. Whether you're drunk and she isn't, she's drunk and you're not, or you're all just wasted.

Drinking enough to pull the edge off is okay and often preferred, but drinking yourself into losing control is something totally different. Your frame is the billboard that identifies you to complete strangers. Don't fuck it up by not being able to control yourself.

To take this from a different perspective, Tyler(Owen) from RSD often brings up the fact that he doesn't drink. In his view, as a rising star, the more reference experiences you gain, the stronger your game will be, and when drunk, those experiences fail to register as strongly, robbing yourself of growth. On the other hand, it provides an easy way of interacting with women.

Essentially, drinking will make you decent at game fast, not drinking will make you excellent at game faster. The learning curve will be steeper when not drinking, but a high level comes faster and is accessible at any point during the day whereas when drinking you will become decent faster but your ability is limited to alcohol.

Congratulations on overcoming those addictions. As somebody said below, the key facet is being in control of yourself.

it always struck me as kind of strange that these sober pua guys can go out and hit on, and fuck drunk chicks, when they are stone cold sober.

also, if you have a totally drunken hookup, TAKE HER OUT FOR BREAKFAST/COFFEE NEXT MORNING. you want to be seen with her. personally i don't give a shit if i ever see a girl again after i bang them so it's neither here nor there what they think about us getting coffee together, i'm just covering my ass.

Not a fan of it personally. Sure I'll hit it off with 'em if they're just buzzed. But if they're at the point where they can't even stand up straight I personally don't even find gamin em that fun. Usually they are too fucked up to build any rapport initially and if you go all the way it will probably not be very memorable, it's great if you're just trying to bust a dry spell though.

I can do very well under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, but really, these days I prefer to do most of my interactions (at least the initial ones) completely sober so that I can internalize the success to my sober brain and let it become more natural.

If your only stumbling block is the need for certain substances to help you get things going, then you're probably in good shape and just need to train the brain with practice. Then more practice. And then some more god damn practice.

That applies to me, at any rate. I have no idea what any of y'all need to do ;)

I have been considering this myself. In fact, I am about to go to a pool party where there will be plenty of alcohol. So I feel I am better at game when I have had 2-3 beers than when I am sober, but my issue is that I like drinking, and whatever I tell myself before I go out, it always ends up being really hard not to go for more. So I have been toying with the following strategies.

1) Don't pre-party, saving money this way is not conducive to good game

2) Decide how much you are going to allow yourself to drink in the night before you leave your place. Bring only enough cash to pay for that amount. This should remove the tempation to keep drinking past your pre-determined limit

3) When going out, plan to do x number of sober approaches before you allow yourself to have anything. Where x is some number that seems reasonable to you. I am leaning towards 5 personally.

This just reminded me of the HIMYM "drunk train" episode. There's a lesson to be learned there IMO. You don't want to be a stick in the mud when everyone else is out having fun. I don't think this was the case from the sounds of it, but you did pass up an opportunity to hook up simply because she was drunk and you weren't. Forget the feminism crap about drunk sex = rape. I don't buy it. If the chick wanted to bang and had to get a few drinks in her first to unwind, who are we to judge. My point is that sometimes you shouldn't be afraid to have a few drink when you go out. I know a lot of guys who completely cut out drinking and subsequently end up not going out at all anymore, and as a result their social skills atrophy. If you're not going to drink, then be mindful of how much you're going out or not so you stay in practice.

I drink a bit usually, enough that it makes me more energetic but not enough that it hampers me mentally. Ideally I shouldn't need it though.

I prefer to have control over my faculties. Especially important b/c I always CCW outside of the house. Besides, it kills the gains and makes you fat. My compromise is that I'll focus on quality over quantity and have 1-2 nice craft beers over the night.

Thanks for your input, man. Personally I've started to switch to gaming without alcohol, as I'd like to be just as effective in situations where drinking isn't possible.

I love drinking too. But I agree that drinking to keep up with your pals is pretty beta behavior.

Most importantly, drinking shouldnt be a "thing", if you know what I mean. Have a drink or two, whatever. But don't let it be the focus of your attention or a crutch or anything at all really. A single drink is enough to loosen you up and be socially acceptable.

I have maybe a few beers just to relax, then I space out my drinks after that. Losing control is never a good thing.

I drink often but not excessively. I am always in control of myself and less drunk than most people around me. The problem with this is that I am extremely turned off by women who are drunk when I am relatively with it. Solution: Barmaids. Also, everyone is hitting on them, so it's a fun challenge.
