Regarding the positive/negative masculinity duality you are mostly correct in the description and prescription, but stop trying to define alpha. You are white knighting for the feminine BP frame by artifically creating a divide between the "assholes" and the "real alphas". TRP does not need sugar coating to be easier to swallow.

But I like the insight on the rationalization hamster.

The hamster is really quite an impressive feat of evolutionary psychology, when humans lived in caves, the women all stayed home looked after babies while the men went out and worked/hunted, so for women there was no 'battle of strength' to decide who got the best breeding rights, they had to battle psychologically and use their emotions and intuition to navigate the social hierarchy, while men had no need for that, men simply saw with their own eyes which men were more dominant and capable and followed them.

Calling it a hamster down plays it's power and importance I think.

I want to vouch for this. I lost my virginity to a girl who thought I'd slept with "over 10 girls." She even described me as a "man-whore." He does not go around telling people he's in control. People just look at him, and they already know.

Asserting dominance requires effort, no matter how effortless it may look. The more you practice, the more natural it comes to you. And believe me, after doing many mistakes, you start to get it right, and it feels like pedalling a bicycle; effortless.

I like your ideas, but the true definition of Alpha is to transform something that takes effort into natural instinct. And the only way to do this is practice.

The true alpha male is a man of few words. He is mysterious. He is subtle. He is decisive. He does not exert any unnecessary energy. He does not feel threatened by other guys. He does not react to every little thing another guy does, even more importantly, he does not react to every little thing a girl does. He maintains frame under every circumstance. The frame he maintains is one of confidence, dominance, silently observing the world unfold and only acting when he truly needs to act. As far as anyone observing is concerned, the true alpha male does not even know the word alpha. He just is.

I was out with two girls not too long ago. In the past I had hit on them both and they had both rejected me for different reasons. I didn't really push the issue with either of them because I knew that taking a rejection completely unphased would get the hamster started in their head much more than me trying to talk her out of it.

They call me up at midnight and ask me to meet them at the bar. We have a bunch of drinks, have a few conversations I found awkward to talk about but did my best to keep my cool. (Girls talk to each other. They knew damn well I hit on both of them.) While they bought me some shots to get me caught up with them. (I never really did get caught up.)

Closing time comes up and they decided to get some food, I go along with them. At the restaurant they meet two guys from out of town who just relentlessly try to pick these girls up. What did I do? I didn't tell them to get lost. I didn't get upset. I didn't threatened. I didn't get uncomfortable. I just sat there with the girls and joked with them and the other guys for 3 hours straight.

This whole time, the girls are just laughing at them for trying so hard. They would come over, say "hey, I got a party going on in X hotel room! you girls should come over." Then they would leave. Then 30 minutes later they would be back with a lame ass excuse as to why they didn't stay at the party. They made the conversation extremely sexually charged and didn't have any subtlety at all.

Towards the end of the night one girl had her whole body leaning into me. She eventually turned to me and kinda whispered "You really are cool, you know that?". I just grinned a bit and didn't say a word.

Later that night, the other girl texted me telling me how every time she sees me, she thinks of all the things she wants to do to me.

Frankly, I am not a super attractive man. Some charm, humor, confidence, and coolness goes really far. All of this was done without having to say a single bad word to either of these girls.

Technically an Alpha male is the sole male in a group of pack animals that is mating a reproducing. But i'll digress.

There are two types of "roaring" for males. Roaring one way makes you look desperate and insecure, while Roaring the right way makes you look masculine and dominant.

It would be nice to think that all that roaring is a bunch of stupid, insecure nonsense but the truth is sometimes women are attracted to that type of behavior.

I think the ideal way to be alpha is the subtle "james bond" style you talk about. But guys who roar can be alpha sometimes too.

This is a great post but for people who are new to TRP/observing human behaviour and social dynamics I think "fake it till you make it" works well.

It still requires balls to act alpha even if you aren't and before long acting alpha becomes an effortless habit and a behaviour pattern you can truly begin to master.

You can't just "become alpha" without making some kind of effort. It won't take long for it to become effortless and invisible.

This is a hard truth that the "fake it till you make it" crowd needs to swallow. If you are genetically a beta, there's nothing in the world you can do to make yourself an alpha. All you can do is adopt alpha mannerisms and hope some gullible female buys it.

And most times, betas who pretend to be alphas just come off as fops.
