I made a new friend last year who I've been gradually getting closer with. Recently, we were both in a situation that we were both uncomfortable with but that I was definitely more uncomfortable with. This situation involved a male stranger and walking into a supposed legitimate business, but as far as we could tell was an apartment without a business sign in a somewhat sketchy building. I heard a male voice. I didn't want to go in and we left. Afterwards, when we were discussing it, she incredulously asked me "why are you so afraid of men?" In the moment I was shocked at her question, and just said something like most women would be wary of a strange man in a situation like that. I don't know if she's dumb and naive, or downright malicious. I'm lucky that I don't have a history of trauma. But a lot of women do. So what did she want to hear? That I've been raped or something? Clearly at best she's disrespectful because even when I was a naive little pickme I would never have asked another woman that question.

I've also realized she has a pattern of subtly insulting me unnecessarily. Like saying a dress in a shop is dull after I say it's pretty. Telling me a dress wouldn't suit me when I just glanced at it and called it pretty and showed no interest in trying it on or buying it and certainly didn't ask her opinion. Disdainfully asking me why I bought my china set that she's eating off of after I invited her to dinner in my home. And asking me why I'm afraid of men. She also has pickme tendencies but I won't go into that.

So I want to drop this woman. I don't want to deal with a confrontation, I really don't care that much. The problem is, she keeps texting me though I've been distant with her since the question incident. I don't know how she doesn't understand what is wrong with her behavior. She seems totally oblivious. Was she raised by wolves? I don't understand.

I realize this has turned into a rant but I needed to get it off my chest. Ladies, what would you do in this situation? Is ghosting a terrible thing to do?
