I am RP aware for about two months now. Last night, after the kids were in bed and just before I left for the gym, my wife hit me with, "with all the changes in your personality lately, I would be remiss not to ask, are you cheating on me?"

At first I played it off as a shit test and replied "all the time" with a smile. Either I can't pull it off, or it would never work, but it clearly didn't. I then simply said "no" and tried to STFU. She kept pushing and pushing for me to promise and swear on my kids lives that I would never ever think of cheating, etc. Which I resisted for a while.

I was thinking that this is a sign the dread is actually starting to kick in, and I don't want to squash it just as it starts to happen. But she seemed pretty upset and I realized this is a comfort test, so I slowly gave in to some of the requests (I promise I'm not cheating).

I was trying to find a way to turn it around on her, without destroying the comfort. In other words, what could I say to supply enough comfort while keeping the dread intact. The best I could think of at first was "I love you. I'll focus on loving you and you just focus on loving me." It went over well, so after a couple more assurances I finished with: "I'll focus on not cheating on you and you focus on making me not want to cheat." or something close to that.

We were sitting on the bed so as soon as the words were out of my mouth, I kissed her and pushed her back until I was on top of her. I was escalating but she predictably said we were not going to have sex and then I leave her to go to the gym. Old me would have blown off any plans to get some, but instead I suggested BJ now and sex when I get back. She agreed to it, which tells me I passed the test (listen to her actions).

This is mostly for me to collect my thoughts, however, I'm interested to know if there were better ways to handle things. It seems like everyone here who thinks they know what they are doing is quickly corrected.
