I was at the gym yesterday and felt like a beast with my 6’0 182lb body then looked next to the hawt dude next to me he was about 6’2 220 lbs of solid muscle his arms all tattooed up. I watched in amazement as he warmed up with 175 OHP

I left the gym immediately and vowed never to go back. Those big men are scary and intimidating.

I went straight home and told my wife all about what I witnessed. She reassured me that I have nothing to worry about and that she doesn’t like men with big strong muscles and it’s best that I just stay home and do body weight exercises in the basement

Weirdly enough she asked if I took any pictures.

Should I be worried ?

Here's how I do it. YMMV. I do goals then back into mission then back into role models.

Goals

Write down every area of your life you care about. Family. Faith. Finances. Fun. Fucking. All of it.

Figure out what you want to achieve, lifetime, in each of those categories and how you want to achieve it. Set long term goals and then break them into short term goals. SMART - specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely.

Start a new page and think about the characteristics of the man who could - and did - achieve all of that. He's probably disciplined. Controlled. Ferocious. Funny. A great host. Etc. Write down a plan on how you are going to develop all those characteristics. What are you going to work on and when? Specific, measurable...

Mission

Your short-term mission is now to grow into the man that can do all that shit. Then, you should do whatever you want using those characteristics, skills, etc. as leverage. TWOTSM talks about figuratively screwing the world with your masculine essence as your mission / gift to the world. That's a little hippy for me but to each their own.

Find out what a man with the achievements and characteristics you want should do - in your own judgment. That's probably not your real long-term mission but it's likely close enough for now.

Role Model

Measure yourself against the you that starts where you are right now but actually gives a shit and is disciplined. That's your main role model / competitor.

Your secondary role models should be the older men who have achieved something - that you admire - with their lives and you have interjected yourself into their world to learn from them.

Be your own judge. Men are just men but at the end of the day you need to look at yourself in the mirror. Do you like who you are? Are you hitting your goals? Can you internally validate?

Your whole outlook seems wrong.

Being confident and thinking highly of yourself is great but you absolutely have to couple it with an intense focus on what you could do better. Most people stall in their progress because they don’t constantly seek to improve.

You should take pride in how you constantly learn more, understand deeper, find things that can be improved and work consistently to be better - and very little else.

Take lifting. Once all the beginner advice is out of the way, the number one thing to learn is plateua busting. The ability to quickly spot a stall, figure out the limiting factor, fixing it and pushing past it is what will make you hellishly strong.

It is the same with everything else. Frame, game, work, BJJ, anything. It’s about acceleration, not speed. Keep your foot hard on the gas instead of getting impressed by how fast you’re going.
