I have been depressed for awhile. I don't really tell anyone about it. I don't want people to think I am crazy or that I am fucked up in the head...even though those both may be true. I have been self medicating with alcohol for years. I have been thinking about it lately and honestly I have been drinking heavily to try and escape reality. It doesn't work though. I just feel worse. I get more emotional, I get angry, I get aggressive when I am drunk. I have pushed away a couple people with my drinking, they know I have a problem. The next day when I am hungover I feel even more depressed and wrecked with anxiety.

I have been trying to cut back on the alcohol hoping things would change. Not drinking to the point of blackout or sloppiness. Only having a couple drinks when out. The last week I have worked out everyday and haven't drank either. Today I got up and went for a run and tried to get as much sunlight as possible. But I still feel terrible and tonight I just had to sit in my room and cry for no reason (well besides me just feeling shitty). I don't know what else to do to feel better. I have thought about trying anti-depressants but so many people online have bad experiences with them or they say it didn't really change much. Not to mention then I would have to talk to someone about my depression and it just seems better that no one really knows. It doesn't help either that my social skills aren't the best either. Has anyone had experience with anti-depressants?

Here is all I can think of to do and have been trying the last week -

Work out and eat healthy on a regular basis.

Stop with all the drinking and drugs

Listen to positive things - self help podcasts, motivational speeches, affirmations

Any other suggestions? I don't know what to do anymore
