Oddly enough, that was going to be my next CorporateLand post: what to do if you get fired of laid off.

I can give you a more detailed response with more info; feel free to PM me if you prefer.

First, take a deep breath and relax. Plenty of people get fired, and this isn't the end of the world. Think about some of the more shit aspects of your gig, and how they are Not Your Problem anymore. Where I first worked, there was an intercom system, and when the owner, who was Not a Fun Guy would call in, he would get parked by the receptionist and then a page would go out. So the first morning after I got let go (employer went B.K.) I woke up and thought, "Never again will I hear 'Vasiliy Zaitzev, Josef Stalin on 63...Vasiliy Zaitzev, Josef Stalin on 63."

Second, take a day or two to decompress. Do NOT take a week.

Third, schedule your days so that finding a new job is your new job. Get your shit up and running, looking for a new gig. Put the word out on your contact list. Figure out how to manage whatever issue got you canned.

Fourth, schedule your time around the above. Get up in the morning, work on employment issues - consider temping if you need $$$ - after that get your workout in - and it is a good time to start (if you aren't already on one) an exercise program for better health and stress relief.

Fifth, never stop fighting back. During the last recession, I remember a news story about a former CEO who was delivering pizzas. Sure, probably not the best use of his time, but at least he was fighting back as a man.

Sixth, cram down expenses.

Update your resume, start hitting the pavement looking for a new job. Build a profile on LinkedIn and monster.com and apply for jobs.

Get into the gym, and lift. Think on the things that led to your job loss.

You have goals. They did not share your goals. They have put you in a better position to pursue those goals.

Spin it in future interviews as you were being pidgeon holed into a spot, trying to grow into more, but they didn't want that. They wanted a human resource, not a growing employee and asset.

Tell the next one you'll be better off because this is forcing you to find a better fit.

Step one is start looking for another job. Depending on your finances go for anything if you're low on cash, while looking for a good longer term job. If your decent on cash concentrate on finding a good replacement job and get yourself back on your feet.

Take it as a learning lesson. I'm sure you have aome concrete goals to improve after this experience.

Keep your chin up. You'll be fine. Update resume, stay active, lift, apply for new jobs, etc.

Looking for a new job is your new job. Until you find one that is. Take it as an opportunity to spruce up your resume.

Get up tomorrow. Hit the streets with your resume. Meet people and get numbers. You can do the resume thing online over the weekend, but do not waste the golden business hours. A word of caution on headhunters... do not depend on them.

Congrats! It's a great rite of passage for a man.

That being said, based on your other comment, you might not actually be good at your job.

WHATEVER YOUR CAREER OR JOB IS IN LIFE, AS A MAN IT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO DO TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. Don't half-ass your job. Don't phone it in. Give it 100% of everything you have every day you're there. With a smile.

Look deep inside yourself and figure out why they REALLY fired you.

Career tip: Spend 20% of your "time" marketing yourself internally rather than doing good work. Said another way, good work that is never seen or appreciated might as well have not been done.

My first real professional job was Bennigans. I went from server to bartender and it was years in between. Multiple locations but same passionate place. Quick disclaimer....people have opinions about this but let me tell you. MOST years have been fantastic income wise (paid for my own school, supported myself and saved up quite a chunk to waste later on a South America trip (not waste, you know what i mean). Personal choices for me. Today, inflation has had an effect so in general hot spots are generally what you look for to keep the same situation (inflation is a bitch)....at the end of the day though, people and their opinions be damned (get a real job----bitch you come to me b/c you hate your job lol)

That said, after 11 years.... a new GM who was a prick changed everything. Fired me b/c i didn't sell out to him and work only for him (details don't matter....i intended to within a week, but he was unwilling to care even a heartbeat). It was the saddest experience of my life professionally to be pushed out b/c someone else had an ego and i wasn't experienced yet to deal with that and had character. Don't regret that b/c your character and reputation matter if they matter to you....

Point is....It sucked!!! Destroyed my current world but i adapted and branched out. If not now but from this point forward, have a positive reputation. I know that matters in the corporate world as much as it does in the hospitality industry b/c of my brother's own stories but this new social world (linkedin, etc)....

I don't have much of an answer other than to maintain character and maybe take a moment to process. That way when you focus your energies (very soon) you show people who the fuck you are and what the fuck you have to offer. Have perspective and man up....and best of luck. Cheers

Getting fired from previous job was one of the best thing that happened in my life. So many new opportunities that I would have missed if I was still rotting in that place. New experience, intro and retrospective of my life and what I wanted,... and then it landed me a 100x better job.

I know you might not see it like that now. But trust me, you will look at that as a great experience down the road. That's also how you should look at it now. Learn from it and move forward.

Society makes getting fired sound like a bad thing. Truth is, sometimes it's a blessing in disguise.

Here's your action plan:

Remember, this shouldn't phase you. "CorporateLand" needs workers to execute, so you will ALWAYS have options. Guys like me, are always on the hunt for top notch employees. And if you're focused on personal/life development, than you're the guy I want on my team.
Seriously, don't get down. You will find a new job, Uber is always an option.
Remember this is a blessing, and an opportunity. You need to take the time to now focus on what really matters - YOU. Focus on your own development. Go to the gym, network with people you didn't have time to network with in the past. Take this opportunity to put yourself in situations where you're meeting new people ie. sports leagues, events.
Most jobs are found through your network (as you age). So network, get out there, hand in resumes in PERSON. No one fucking does this anymore, but guys like me don't have time to read resumes, so it's HR that does the filtering. HR sometimes doesn't know what I want in a person. Drop off your resume in person, i might take a minute to meet you then and there just to show my appreciation for you taking the time and doing something no one else does anymore.

Think about how you want to spin it. At only three months, you might be better off pretending you were just unemployed during that time. See if your applications require EVERY prior job or just what you want to include. If it is up to you, you can leave it out. Otherwise it is a lie to omit it and you risk getting found out but TRP is amoral as they say.
