So I’m gonna go against the common wisdom here about “don’t accept her frame bro”, because frankly I think that’s bullshit in this scenario. What you did was a harmless joke but she felt disrespected by it. Requesting an apology is not a shit test here. Yeah if you grovel that’s bad. And I’d avoid using the word “sorry”. But if you deny the apology and “hold frame bro”, all that’s gonna say to her is that you don’t care about her feelings. Women do in fact need to feel validated in order to feel connected to you. The value of TRP is preventing guys from going overboard. But good luck trying to keep a good woman if you can never acknowledge her feelings. Doesn’t mean those feelings are justified necessarily, you made a silly joke and she’s upset. But by denying her this, she’s not gonna be turned on, she’ll be turned off. Bottom line, you want to essentially acknowledge her feelings without adopting the bitch position. So I would say “I acknowledge what I said was not well thought out. I didn’t mean anything by it.” Or “I apologize if that rubbed you the wrong way. I didn’t mean anything by it”.

I'm not saying whether op did the right thing or not. What I want to say is: There is a BIG difference between saying "I'm sorry for what I said", versus "I'm sorry that what I said upset you". One is taking blame (which you don't need to in this situation) and the other is NOT accepting blame, but showing that you have some level of basic care for her.
