I'm friends with a girl I see as a HB9.5. She'd be an easy 10 in my eyes if she weren't so passionate about her Mormon faith (currently wants her non-religious LTR to convert when they marry). Everything above a 9, or even 8.5 is purely subjective, like the others have said. Most guys have an agreed upon level of attractiveness by which they rate a girl collectively. Things like soft feminine features, symmetrical face, reasonable level of physical fitness, and no glaring flaws (nose the size of the San Fernando valley, mustache, etc.). What elevates it beyond the collectively agreed upon HB-range are YOUR specific tastes, turn-ons, and ideal qualities. Like redheads? Like brunettes? Like icy blue eyes? Sometimes it's the little things that push her over the edge into 10 territory, but almost always they're about taste. That's not to exclude personality as well. So she's an easy 8, 8.5 or so, but you've got awesome chemistry with her. That might elevate her to 10 status for you as well.

In the end, though, it's up to the beholder.

Most guys aren't going to be meeting 10s, they are so rare in the real world. We are talking super-model tier. Not model tier. Imo model tier is ~7-8 and then 9.5-10, that narrow range of the normal curve, that's super-model tier. People throw the terms around HB7,8,9 like it's the word of the month. Imo most girls are falling somewhere between 4s,5s, maybe 6s. The higher you go up the chain the lower the percentiles are.
