I actually agree. The only time I’ve ever been noticed or complimented by girls is when I wasn’t trying to get their attention at all. Everytime it happened it would catch me totally off guard. Do your thing, improve yourself, and just be. They will come if the time and place is right.

I gotta be honest, this is one of those platitudes or trite sayings that has the ring of truth in it, but is bullshit.

It is ok to try, it is ok to put your best foot forward. It is ok to plan a fun date, plan a fun event, plan a romantic gesture.

There are a lot of women (and men) that appreciate it and are flattered when you put effort into a courtship.

What is the reverse? To not try? To not give a shit? To just be all like, "Hey, I'm not gonna put any effort whatsoever into courting you because if we are meant to be then we are meant to be."

Sorry, that is just bullshit.

There is a right and a wrong way to do anything. But don't confuse bad effort with all effort.

I know, I am flattered when a girl "tries" to court me and does actions just for me hoping I will like her more. What I find to be a complete turn off is someone who just doesn't give a shit and puts in zero effort into building our relationship because of the whole "Well, if we are meant to be then we shouldn't have to do any work and everything should just magically fall into place." Sorry, real relationships and real courtships do take some effort and that is ok.

No matter if you are a man or a woman, both sides will appreciate good effort

Can confirm.

Recently started dating a woman who has been a friend for about six months. She was into me romantically/sexually for about half that time but I had no idea because I thought she was gay (I had legit reasons, long story).

But all the work I had done on myself up to the point of meeting her helped her be attracted to me even though I was never necessarily "trying" to draw her attention during our hangouts. it's early but it's looking like this is going to be a LTR. feels good man

What you’re really describing is not being desperate, which IS attractive. Think of it like getting a new job. You still need to search for, apply, and interview for the job. If you already have a job; however, you won’t come off as desperate. It’s the perception of not being desperate that is attractive, as opposed to not actually trying.
