The series is so well-known that most people will get the reference to Barney with his "have you met Ted" intro line.

So if they get the reference they will probably laugh and see the playfulness in it. In which case it could work.

If they don't get the reference it's not necessarily a good or bad approach. I'd say it's mid. It's not giving much so they're like "who is that and why?"

Having someone else introduce you can also make you seem insecure sometimes. Like you didn't dare approach yourself first so your more confident wingman had to make the move for you?

Back during my college days when HIMYM was quite famous, my buddy and I would play "haave you met" in the college or at the club.

It was awesome lol. But after the initial "haave you met", the rest of course, is depended on your own game.
