Aside from impacting your dating life, it's likely affecting your health as well. Putting on some weight and muscle did wonders to my confidence and health, so I'd highly recommend it.
[–]obviouslybait 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just don't go too hard... I started bulking and gained a ton of muscle and fat, now I'm muscle/fat/thick and it's way way worse than just being skinny. Girls like low body fat % more than anything else. Try to put on a bit of lean muscle by lifting and eating more protein, don't just eat as much as possible to get "big" it's going to suck.

That’s an unhealthy size. Your focuses should be nutrition first then muscle building.

Both at the same time. By necessity. He should start a bulk cycle immediately imo.

I would recommend talking to a doctor about your options and maybe seeing a dietitian. I'm 6'2" and 130 lbs and what trained medical professionals have told me is that I'm healthy at this weight and the things we have tried to gain weight have all failed. It's entirely possible to be healthy at that weight just make sure you are taking in what you are putting out if not more.
Overeating to gain weight can be just as unhealthy as being underweight, so I can't stress enough that you should talk to a professional about your options.
I won't lie and say that being skinny can't hurt your chances with some girls, because it definitely can but even skinny guys can get good looking girls. Being confident in your body is a big plus regardless of size. Being able to joke about it helps.
Just working on who you are outside of your physical size will get you a long ways. If you feel like you look too young maybe you can grow facial hair, I'm a year younger than you and from the sounds of it most people would guess I'm a decade older, because of the beard and my demeanor. How you hold yourself can effect how you are perceived by a lot.
A couple weeks ago I was visiting Minneapolis and a girl I met there thought I was lying about my age because I seemed older than I am, that comes down to how I hold myself, a well groomed beard, and the appearance of wealth to a certain degree. Another thing that can make people assume your older is having money but not being to crazy with it, think nice clothes and we'll groomed but not being plastered with Gucci and wearing a Rolex.
In summary see a doctor, ensure you are healthy and evaluate your options, work on your confidence and present yourself as the person you want to be.

130 lbs is 59.02 kg
[–]TheGoatLives24 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Bro you need to eat your basic 3 meals a day and a protein shake. Drink about a gallon of water a day. Add some supplements. Iron and zinc are amazing. Get 20min of sun daily. Sleep 8 hrs atleast. And lift heavy at the gym.
Do this for a month straight and youll see a huge difference.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
For reference purposes, I’ll be 17 soon and I’m 6’1 195 lbs. I do lift so it’s mostly muscle. That being said, I do think you are pretty underweight. If you can get to 165-180 ish you would look and probably feel a lot better.
As for the dating aspect, I would say getting to the weight spectrum I listed above would likely increase your chances. Women like dudes who are healthy and take care of themselves.
As for getting to a healthier weight, tons of advice on YouTube, but to keep it plain and simple eat big get big and train harder than last time
Big disclaimer, try to improve all aspects of your life not just working out!

Tall skinny guys always have a big dick. I always did ok. So will you.
[–]Slow-Association6105 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is extremely skinny. I’m 6’0 160 and I’m very happy with that, although I’m still relatively skinny. Just consistently work out (5 days a week) and eat good after your workouts. Creative and water will also help you quickly gain weight. Before you know it you’ll probably be 140-145 with defined muscles. Still skinny, but you are tall so that will help you a lot in life.
Gaining muscle will give you a crap load of confidence.

I hear this all the time (the part about no tinder matches). Do you all mean literally a big fat 0 matches or 'very few.' Hard to imagine especially for guys in big cities with huge numbers of people that it's really 0 but I've heard that a lot, including from guys that are like 5.5. or 6 out of 10 looks wise. I guess OLD is a bitch.

Chill out. I'm 6'2" and 130, it is possible to be that size and be healthy. It's also possible to not be able to change that. I have went on countless diets, tried exercise, tried being lazy. None of it changed anything, my metabolism is just high as fuck. I have seen doctors and dietitians, they couldn't do anything to change it. Just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they don't eat, for a long time I over ate to try to gain weight, that did cause me health issues.
[–]Interesting-Brief202 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link
It's really not possible to be healthy at that low of a weight my friend. It's almost as dangerous as being very fat.
Mainly, being so skinny means you are probably short on important nutrients like protein, calcium, and vitamin D. With a lack of muscle mass, a fall means a broken hip and 6 weeks in the hospital (this is why old people get hurt so bad then they fall, there's no cushion to protect the bones). A deprivation of nutrients also means organ damage over the long term. A shortage of Iron can cause anemia.
https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/advice-for-underweight-adults/
I'm saying this stuff to help you, not skinny shame you. You have to fix this right now my friend. You really need to get to at least 150. And lifting weights is only 10% of the word, 90% is EATING LIKE A HOG.
I haer from skinny guys all the time at the gym about high matabolism and stuff, you just aren't eating enough. Don't gorge yourself on McDonald's of course, or you will get health problems. But eat more and you will gain. Much more. But at the end of the day you don't need a doctor, you just need to eat more. If you have a high metabolism, you have to eat even more. You keep eating more until you out-eat your metabolism.
Eat more calories than you burn= gain lbs. Eat fewer than you burn= lose lbs.
You have to eat more. Most of these guys eat like birds. Eat more, eat more, eat more. If you don't gain, eat more. It works 100% of the time, you just have to eat way more because you burn off a lot. It's the same with fat people, they will claim slow metabolism, and the solution is to cut calories below the slow metabolism.
Here's how: start on 3,000 calories a day. Weigh yourself Sunday morning. If you haven't gained weight, eat 3,500 a day for that week. I had to eat 5,000 calories to bulk up, at some points it felt like force-feeding but that's what you have to do.
Suggested foods: Eggs, whole milk, any meat, baked potatoes, peanuts, peanut butter, more milk, chicken mcnuggets, mass gainer shakes.

Could you be checked for hyperthyroidism? It can cause someone to have an extraordinarily high metabolism, even just sitting down doing nothing. As well you're young right now, everyone I know who was skinny skinny around that age range all gained weight as they got older, many even ended up fat because of the reliance on their metabolism which can drop dramatically as you get older, they never had to watch what they eat, or exercise, so none of the skills were developed to maintain your health, every single one of these people exploded in their 30's, just make sure you keep an eye on your activity levels and diet as you age and don't rely on metabolic rate forever.
[–]MyNameIsAirl 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Listen, just because a body doesn't hold extra weight does not mean that the body isn't taking in the proper nutrients.
I have literally seen doctors about my weight, I trust their opinions over yours. You know what worked for you, that's not what works for everyone. If I eat more my body burn more calories. I already eat over 3k calories a day and have no vitamin deficiencies or anemia.
I come from a naturally skinny family, my brother, sister, and dad are all around the same BMI as me. Beyond that I haven't broken a bone since I was 5 years old and have had plenty of times when I could have. Also being skinny doesn't mean I have no muscle, I don't have a lot of muscle but it's fat that my body doesn't have.
I spent a year drinking protein shakes and pretty much gorging myself to gain weight while working a job that was literally lifting steel weights for 10 hours a day, I would move around 30 tons of steel disk blades in a shift. I did manual labor jobs for several years, built 300-500 lbs windows. I may look like a wimp but I'm not. I may not look healthy but I am.
[–]Interesting-Brief202 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
If you're 6-2 and 130 you have zero muscle. You are literally a concentration camp victim at that weight- you are skin and bones. Lie all you like, it isn't healthy.
Calorie surplus= gain weight. Calorie deficit= lose weight. You don't automatically burn more if you eat more. That's total hogwash, you just don't want to be big bad enough to eat more.
Your doctor is probably a fat slob or skinnyfat. A medical degree means nothing, go look at greg doucette on youtube. If your doctor tells you one thing, and every bodybuilder ever tells you something else, who is right? My doctor told me not to lift weights because my shoulder is bad. I didn't listen.
Protein shakes are low in calories. Track your calories and eat 4000 a day. Actually track them. Weigh your food out. You probably think you're eating 600 calories at once, but really it's only 400. You did manual labor jobs, and that burned more calories, so you could drink shakes and not gain.
[–]MyNameIsAirl 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Where did you get your medical degree?
[–]MyNameIsAirl 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have done everything you recommend in the past. My body is not like yours. Overeating has caused me more health issues than eating what my body requires. Now if I over eat my stomach bleeds because I get ulcers. You don't know the intricate details of my body so shut the fuck up. Random body builders don't know the details of my body, they know what worked for their bodies. I don't want to look like a roided out body builder anyways, I would rather look the way I do. I am healthy and happy in my body, if you take issue with that then that is your problem.
[–]Interesting-Brief202 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You won't look like you take steroids unless you do. I don't suggest you take steroids or attempt to be 300 pounds either. I'm just suggesting a healthy weight.
You mentioned you get stomach ulcars from overeating. I suggest not eating too much in one meal, try 4-5 smaller meals. This will allow you to grow without upsetting your stomach. For example, I get horrible heartburn if I go to a buffett and stuff myself. You find ways to work around problems. Another suggestion is to eat non-agressive foods like milk and yogurt.
[–]greenlight144000 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I’m sorry but how in the hell can I eat 3000 calories a day? I can barely eat 2000
Peanuts, eggs, whole milk, peanut butter, yogurt, big macs, nuggets.
Example: 9 am- 4 eggs, 2 bacon, 1/2 cup oatmeal mixed w milk, one glass milk- 750 calories, 50 g protein
12 pm- protein shake w whole milk, peanuts 800 calories, 45 protein
3 pm- big mac w med fries 1000 calories, 40 protein
6 pm- big steak with glass of whole milk, baked potato, green beans 1000 calories, 50 protein
3,550 calories

Don't look for gaining weight, gaining muscle is the best option for general health as well as getting dates. Resistance training with adequate nutrition and calories.
[–]TheKandyCinema 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was in the same shoes as you man.
Was 6'3 140 in high school and am now 6'5 190 just from working a physical job and not skipping breakfast. With the gyms finally open, I'm hoping to hit 200-205 by the end of the year and 215-220 by the end of 2022.
Getting bigger helps your confidence so much. I'm still not 100% confident in how I look, but compared to high school, it's night and day man. Get a gym membership, lift some weights, and use mass gainer to really help you bulk up. Especially at your weight, the changes will be fast and your height is a really good foundation for a great physique.
[–]BrunoFromBrazil 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
In terms of attractiveness:
Athletic > Jacked > Average > Skinny > Chubby > Fat
In general terms you can get laid at any body type, but the quantity, quality and difficulty will vary.
So yeah, work on your physique... but also work on your game right now and don't wait until you're bigger.
[–]Browns12346 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thanks for that. Was literally going to ask if i should wait to get to a certain weight (155-160) to start talking to girls.
[–]BrunoFromBrazil 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Don't wait until you gain another gram. Practice game like crazy because it pays off immensely.
[–]Ohhhwordddd 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You should be at least 190 given your height. Double your protein intake
[–]huh274 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is just wrong though, you can look fit at that height and do ok without the insane intake of calories someone with OPs metabolism would have to consume to maintain at 190
[–]Ohhhwordddd 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nope. He weighs the same as the average female. If he has to consume to maintain 190 then he should.
For dating? Too skinny can probably be a turn off to some. But at 6'1" I'd be more concerned about my health if I weighed much less than 160. There are a ton of factors though so maybe take to a doctor and see if they can help you figure out what a healthy weight is for you.

I see lanky dudes do well all the time. Having some muscle is ideal, but I'd say that being lanky is preferable to being chubby, from my observations.

It's tough to get a perspective without a photo. some people wear things differently than others. Sometimes you see some folks that are either really thin or really large some people pull it off some of them don't.
[–]huh274 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ignore Roman if you are trying to bulk. Simple math, Calories in - Calories out.
There are healthy ways to bulk, and I’m 6 ft roughly 145 lbs and am 32, have more or less been at this weight since 17.
I workout regularly, and have lean muscles that are getting thicker and more solid looking with virtually no change in diet and even eating at a caloric deficit.
I recommend working out with body weight until it’s too easy, making sure to work out “big” muscle groups, and ignore the lesser ones as they don’t really get bigger on skinnies.
Look up “ectomorph” body type, that’s what we are and there are entire workouts and diets geared towards us.

I'm 6'2 23 years old and 195 pounds. I'm not sure what you're asking but you definitely need to gain weight. I couldnt imagine being that weight considering we have the same stats pretty much. That has gotta be really unhealthy. You need to bulk up and lift weights or something
[–]Interesting-Brief202 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It's really bad to be that skinny. That is like concentration camp skinny. I used to be 176 at 6-3 and people openly mocked me for looking sickly. Bro,
YOU NEED FOOD NOW OR YOU MIGHT DIE!
Being that smll is really gonna hurt you with girls, but not dying should be a biiger concern for you right now.

People can be healthy at that size and at least for me, eating more is not a solution. In fact eating more to gain weight caused a lot of health problems for me in highschool. Dude should talk to a medical professional about his options, see a dietitian.
Fuck body shaming people for being skinny, for some of us our size is not a choice and it can't be changed.
[–]Interesting-Brief202 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm not body shaming I'm trying to keep him from dying. I didn't mock or berate him, just offered advice.
Body shaming: Haha op is so skinny a strong wind would blow him away. Ill bet his ass cheek leaves a mark in the chair
Advice: You are too thin bro you need to eat more before malnutrition causes you to be anemic.
See the difference?
People cannot be healthy at any size. A simple google search shows that being too fat or too thin is very dangerous for your health.
Your weight is 100% your choice unless you have cancer. You choose how many calories you eat. You may not choose how many your body burns, but you can adjust the level you eat to compensate for that. If you burn fast, you eat more. If you burn slowly, you eat fewer calories.
[–]Browns12346 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thanks for the advice appreciate it. Didnt know that causes anemia.
[–]Arnold_Incelinator 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
it doesnt cause anemia if you are eating meat. there are multiple kinds of anemia. he doesnt know shit. if you have sufficient minerals, vitamins and your protein intake is fine your diet is fine.
japan has 3% obesity rate, their weight is considered underweight by western standards, they live much longer and they face much less health problems related to their weight.
***Causes of anemia
