I don't remember who it was but they advocated saying "you're beautiful" to 25 women in a single day. Not hitting on, but just complimenting. The exercise was to get over the fear of talking to women.
[–]JRSss 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Do you just say that and... walk away?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If memory serves correctly, yes. It's just a passing compliment, not an opener. The guy commented that you shouldn't be surprised if a few women come chasing you down.

Uhh..what? I think average girls like attention, too.

It's like you read my mind. This is identical to what I'm going through right now. I also mainly do daygame but I don't really mind failing. I'm relatively outcome independent. Some days I just talk to girls for the sake of talking, don't even try to number close unless the girl really seems worthwhile.
My main problem is I slip into "interview mode" a lot and can't really find a good comfort zone with kino. This happens regardless of whether I use a direct/indirect opener.
Should I be more direct after a direct opener? Like if I walk up to a girl saying "Hey you're cute I needed to talk to you" (A line I've been loving lately) should I continue along a more direct path like asking if she's single, being more flirtatious, etc. Similarly, if I use a more indirect/situational opener, should I be focusing on making a transistion into that? Either way though I just end up asking them questions, and I don't really feel like I'm building attraction as often as I'd like to.
And as for Kino, I don't even know. It's just not natural for me yet. I just become the hand on the shoulder guy. I know when to emphasize it and can sense when things should be naturally smooth, but it just doesn't feel smooth for for me yet.

Glad you found this during the right time.
I don't mind failing much either.
How to beat "interview mode": Phrase in comments 80% of the time. Everything you say, 80% is in comments. Hi, you're cute had to talk to you. I'm _____ Your shoes are cool. I'm going to guess, [store name]. Her: wow you're right or nope it's _____ Me: I figured. You have good taste though, I would get those shoes too (considering they're unisex). I have shoes of the same color and they're comfortable too. Etc. etc.
Notice there's only one question in that whole paragraph?
Try both. The "is she single" path may be higher risk/reward.
Keep practicing for kino. A handshake, a high-five, hand on the shoulder/arm, etc. is a start. A light shove with a flirting comment is higher risk/reward. Etc.

Thanks for this bro. I'm going to take it all into account. :) And once again, kudos on the amazing timing of this thread.

I've mostly avoided cold approaches, but I'd really like to get started on daygame.
[–]30vanquish 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
All I do is daygame. You don't have to combat the loud music at clubs. Just say, "Hi, you're cute. Had to talk to you." then chat like you've known them for a while, tease/flirt/polite kino.
[–]mileshigh_23 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Make it your goal to become completely and utterly comfortable with rejection. My game right now is higher than it's every been x 50, and it's due to that attitude.
[–]30vanquish 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah, be cool with crappy results as long as you figure out what is wrong and then fixing your approach/actions accordingly
[–]mileshigh_23 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well said. Once you DGAF whether the girl rejects you or not, you have a ton of freedom to play with all the small details of the interaction and not focus on anxiety.

Been approaching for a year. Probably have not done 1000 though. This actually made me feel a little better about my struggles. Seems like a ton of people here join the community and a couple nights later brag about their exploits.

I think it's important not to lose your pride and just put up with the flakes. Allowing yourself to fail is massively important, but I always try to remind myself that 'she' is not the prize. Everyone is on a level. I think the best 'game' quote I've ever heard/read (and I can't remember which PUA came up with this one sorry) is "I don't accept second class behaviour, from myself or others"
Here's something I wrote for myself some time ago as a reminder that I am not a doormat and there is no game to be played

I send two texts/calls if no reply then next person.

1000 might be a little much, but I agree with you. I call it "the gauntlet."
[–]Level_75_Zapdos -4 points-3 points-2 points 14 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link
1,000 is a ridiculously high number. That's 5 girls a day for almost 3 years. If I failed that hard, I would fucking kill myself.
edit: my math is retarded. brb killing myself
[–]lasagnaman 24 points25 points26 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
1000 is 3 girls a day for 1 year.
[–]SimdudeS 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm glad someone said something about this math...
Still interesting points... but
5 girls X 365 days X 3 years (at most) = 5475 attempts. You'd be a pick-up god.
[–]Level_75_Zapdos 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have no clue how I came up with those numbers. I feel like such an idiot, lol.
[–]SimdudeS 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Perhaps your numbers were wrong, but your point was valid.
Part of many people's problem is that they get buried in the idea of 1000 tries. It seems daunting.
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
No, it's not that high a number at all. I set a personal goal of 1000 approaches with zero expectations other than to get shot down. Of course I succeeded sometimes. But I stopped counting approaches somewhere around 3 or 400. It is easy to do 20 approaches in a night at a club, you could easily do 300 approaches if you went out every night for 2 weeks. But I did it mostly on weekends and a few week nights, over a few months. I haven't focused on club game much lately, though.
This is how you refine your game, by doing tons and tons of approaches. You focus on the small incremental improvements, even in the failed sets. With time, you will do fewer approaches because more sets will open and lock in, and you'll spend more time with a set.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I can't remember if I've ever been out on the weeknight to a club. Did you do better/worse/average on a weeknight?
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I never really thought about it. I live in a college town and Thursday is always a big night at the clubs. Other smaller, local venues are popular almost every night, although at lower intensity.
[–]Level_75_Zapdos -2 points-1 points0 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I hope you found some success in the meantime, because doing hundreds of approaches is pointless otherwise.
If 1000 is too high for you, make it 100.
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Well of course I had some successes. But you have to go out with the expectation of being shot down. That way you are not dependent on a positive outcome. You can focus on the process, not the results. I always say, take care of the means, and the ends take care of themselves.
Wanted to add: Joy is in the approach cause you can fully control that. The rest is a bonus. (In the beginning at least).
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, you start to enjoy all the approaches, even the unsuccessful ones. You get to see the patterns, and laugh at what goes wrong, and what goes right. It's all the same when you're having fun with it.
[–]rmbarnes 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Apart from the fact your maths is wrong I do agree with what you're saying. 1,000 approaches with 0 lays would be crazy. If someone did that many approaches without getting double figure lays and they kept going, I don't know if they are tenacious or insane.
There are massive diminishing returns in terms of how much better you get from just approaching, and I'm pretty sure this is going to kick in at way under 1,000 approaches for most people.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's because you're not outcome independent.
