That isn't even a DHV. Essentially he said he quit the job and thus would not rescue a baby because his precious fingers were more important.

I was listening to some audio about storytelling, it suggests you keep a careful watch on what your stories are communicating, both directly and through subcommunications. In that story, the direct message was "I am so awesome" but the subcom was "I am a selfish bastard." The suggested solution is to test your own stories over and over, so you can tell if they're working, and whether the failures are due to your delivery or your content.

Also, I must add, if you lie about being a fireman, you should at least be super athletic. Firemen are required to pass very intense physical tests and are all tall and built up.

That's not even close to universally true, especially when you factor in volunteer fire departments. I've known plenty of firefighters who were in all sorts of states physically... tall and skinny, short and fat, and everything in between.

Wow, not only does that story fail to DHV, it fails as a STORY. It's not interesting, funny, there's no punchline/lesson... It's just aimless bragging.

Overheard a guy at a party telling a chick he pretty much had in the bag, "Once chicks hear I'm going for my PhD, they pretty much are all over me." Needless to say, it went downhill from there. Mightve been able to recover but he didn't take a hint and kept going on and on about it.

Actually i am in an emt course, a few of the fire guys are pretty decent size. and there in there early 20's.
