..on your yacht with your friends. Or something similarly exciting, to indicate you had plans and her flaking did not stop you from going out and having fun.

Better strategy: to actually go out and have fun when she flakes on you. You have exciting things to do and her flaking shouldn't stop you. But it's too late for that now.

To answer your question: no, do not ask for any explanation. It fucking sucks but what she, and every other girl in this situation, wants to see is you be non-reactive and unphased. Why? It's a shit test. Girls want a rock and if they can throw you off emotionally by just flaking, there's no telling whether or not you can deal with real life shit. And guys that prove they can are the ones who get the girls.

personally, i wouldn't respond. unless it was someone i knew already, i wouldn't contact them again.

i understand that sometimes plans fall through - but not warning you, and then not even mentioning it when she texts you later (if i understand correctly)? i wouldn't put up with disrespect like that.

I don't like the whole attitude of pretending in your reply that the flake never happened. This is where I disagree with some PUA stuff. A girl flakes on you then texts you later asking what your up to? She's taking the piss here, call her out on it. If your a strong minded man who sets boundaries on how people treat him, you don't put up with this bs. I wouldn't get really angry with her. Not replying might seem childish like you're in a mood over it.

I'd ignore the text, then text her the next morning saying "hey sorry about yesterday. I completely forgot about our date. Next time I'll be there, promise"
