How to create conversations people can respond to? or ask questions back to?

Try to ask about something that may interest the speaker.

For example, I was in a zoom meeting with a lady who had a print on her wall and asked her about it. Her face immediately relaxed and she chatted about this for 5 min.

The print was nice. But honestly I wasn’t in love with it. And as she told me about it I asked more open ended questions (the type you simply can’t answer with one word) like “how did you come to have it?” Etc

It’s actually, and this is going to sound a little mean, worth practicing with people you may value less or aren’t trying to impress. You won’t be as nervous and will be willing to branch out a little and try things just to see how they work. Then with enough practice you’ll feel comfortable with everyone.

Even today, I’d consider myself pretty engaging but sometimes I have really awkward chats, conversations I didn’t enjoy etc. That happens to everyone

I was in a bar once out of town and two women walked in and asked me if they could sit down next to me. I said it's a public place you can sit where you want.

The cuter of the two said oh well i mean with COVID I just didn't want you to be not comfortable since we saw everybody spread out at the bar.

I'm like nah you can sit don't worry about it. Then conversation ended. But i leaned in and i said don't worry about ordering food here it took over an hour to get mine. They laughed but said they were starving and didn't mind waiting. Then i asked them if they really ask at each place they go to if it's ok to sit next to someone and laughed about the entire situation we're all in with the pandemic and how much it's changed the way we interact with each other.

conversation ended again, however she leaned in and asked me "sooo what are you doing for new years"

at that point we chit chatted back and forward for quite a bit.. she told me a lot about herself, said she was trying to get back into dating. Her friend joked about her putting her picture on a dating site and that 100s of guys started hitting her up. To which i responded well when an attractive woman puts her picture on a site like that it's like blood in the water in a shark tank.

her friend nudged her and said ohhh he said you were attractive! and the cuter girl sorta mocked her friend and playfully showed herself off saying "well i mean look at me" it was a good light hearted conversation. I however didn't bite because I had a plane to catch in a few hours and i told her best of luck in her dating life. To which she responded yeah thanks, it's a numbers game though.

TLDR: keep conversation open ended. use environment to ease into topics. Make those topics open ended.

Ask open ended questions about anything. If they give you a one worded response and don’t ask a reciprocating question (as a lot of people do) then it’s on them not you. Conversation goes two ways- it’s not an interview.

Repeat after me, asking questions isn’t seduction. Asking questions should be 1% of everything you are saying to her. The rest just statements, assumptions, banter, teasing,… etc

“You look like you study in college”

“Don’t tell me you like venom movies”

“Wow, so you must be feeling completely confused then”

“I’m gonna pretend like i don’t know you”

“Girl you teasing me” “I can’t believe you just said that” “You just lost 2 points”

“I thought you were different” “I bet you just say that to save your reputation” “You are so evil”

“You are lucky to be pretty because once the looks go, you’ll be in trouble”

“Can we pretend like you are actually a fun person, please”

“That’s too intense for me, I’m not as crazy as you yet”

1 never reply answering her question and adding "What about you?" . Just answer her question and wait to her reply, then the Next reply you can develope more conversation and add "and you"?

2 never say good night, because the Next day there Will be a ego war to open conversation

you have to make conversation interesting. the easiest way is what I called shared experiences, one of the comments talks about meeting 2 girls in a bar. Alot of what they talked about were shared experiences.

Instead of "is this your first time here?" or "do you come here all the time?" say, "wow, this place has an amazing vibe, i love the cool artwork over the bar, who the hell comes up with a cow fighting a monkey and calls it art?" or "I've been waiting along time for my drink, if you come back tomorrow you're drink will finally be here waiting for you." or something else that connects you and them with a shared experience.

the second tip is say something a bit crazy or exciting. It shows confidence to be a bit more edging, people get asked "how was your day?", "what do you do for work?" etc all the time. Be original.

You need to be able to just talk, self-amuse, and make yourself laugh. But also ask questions, listen, talk about their interests, and be curious. Its important not to try to hard to make others like you when you interact with them. Most people won't be interested in being your friend and thats okay. Just talk to somebody else.
