Ignore insults as if he said something positive
Reverse Pressure when he asks a demeaning question

Plus, you can pull a technique from The Game (more specifically RSDTyler, but I only read about it in The Game) called AMOGing, where you point out the shit he's doing to the group.

E.g.

AMOG: Says a passive aggressive insult

You: to the group "Excuse him, he's just insulting me because he's insecure about himself"

The same way you win most mind-games, by not playing. He sounds insecure. Why are you hanging out with them if she is taken? Remove your presence from them, work on your mission/goals and find different friends.

If he needs to attack other people he's not a true alpha, just a sadcase with issues.

I had something like this happen to me, what hurt was the guy and I had been friends for a long time. I got good advice from another friend: Confront.

Long story:

So one day after school I asked to talk to him, I said something like "You took the girl you knew I was working on, that was not cool. You chose her over our friendship. Which tells me there is no more friendship. And now you think you are the shit. Congrats, you are the shit." - which sounds now kind of beta-ish, but that was me then. And I walked away.

I stopped talking to the guy completely, ignoring him and the girl. The guy continued to be a shit, I ignored. The girl talked to me one day and asked what the deal was. I had nothing to loose, so I told her what had gone down. Her response: "Oh, I like you. But I'm with him now."

Shortly, for unknown reason to me, she dumped him. Dude had lost a friend and girl.

What I would do now:

Move on, get a hotter girl. Plenty of girls all over. You will forget about them both as soon as your dick goes into the other girl. You wanted that slice of pie and someone beat you to it? Get the next bigger slice.

This girl showed interest in me, but I was let’s say to late to the party and he ended up hooking up with her.

Couple things:

There remains a gross misunderstanding of the term, "interest." REAL interest is seen when she responds positively to getting further into an actual interaction. Like responding well to physical escalation. Or getting to the point where she's clearly working WITH you to isolate the both of you. Or blocking out other guys in favor of you.
If she was going to hook up with a guy that insecure, then that says things about her and about you. It says that her standards are low. It shows you that your standards are low as well if you liked someone like her.

Now when we are all around each other he keeps treating me like a lesser man in front of people. I can’t really defend myself without....

Another angle of what ManBeast said: you really don't need to. If a 5-year old was calling you a pee-pee head, would you be wracking your brain trying to figure out how to defend yourself or win the conversation?

The truth is, if this guy represents the top of the heap in the crowd you're running with, that says something about those people as well. Hint: You can and should find a new social circle. If you're unsure about how to do that, PM me your location and I can offer some pointers.

One time something similar happened to me. Gave him a love tap on the face. Soft enough to not really actually hurt him, but hard enough that he knew i was serious and that he got the point. Wasn't an issue after that.

This has happened to me before. In fact, my current LTR of two years with a fitness model came about this way.

I had a friend who is five years younger, handsome, and the "talker" in our circle.

My gf (obviously not my gf at the time) went on a date with this guy after he and I expressed interest. in fact, when she came into the bar, he threw me a worried look, pointed at her, and said "I want that one".

Well, they went on a date. He got too drunk and talked a lot. he bought her dinner, flowers and all her drinks. Then blew up her phone with novels. Being the gorgeous woman she is with a ton of options, she flat-out nexted him the next day with "I'm getting more of a friendship vibe" text.

A week later I run into my soon-to-be gf, and hand her my card. she texts me a few days later, and I ask her out. I make her pay for her drink, and thirty minutes into the date invite her back to my place where we have sex.

See...I knew the inherent flaws in my friend's game. After my LTR started getting serious, our friendship faded because he became too jealous and emotionally-uncentered to deal with.

Say nothing.
Most men are bad in bed. If they are not continuing to hook up, or there were only a couple dates, continue to pursue the woman.
Most men are emotionally and socially retarded within the context of courtship. This will chase most attractive women away.
Begin to phase this person out of your life.

Walk with confidence, talk with confidence. Walk in the room kinda like you own it. These things, like this situation you’re in, can be really rough not just mentally; but emotionally too. But honestly, you should NOT be taking any of his shit.

And you have to make him know that. And don’t just tell him, show him. You only have to prove yourself to yourself. And once you know that, your thoughts and reactions to things you encounter becomes different. We can take on a different kind of confidence and manner of interacting when we internalize the fact that what no one else things about you MATTERS.

This means that if someone tries to talk down to me, then I know it doesn’t fucking matter and I will gladly let them know. This doesn’t mean I’m a defensive asshole, it means I know myself well enough to not care or react in kind. Tell him he’s a fool for talking to you like that if the time is right, doesn’t matter if someone else might hear you if it’s well-placed and deserved.

Maybe these things sound irrational, idk maybe they are. But I think they can actually be the rational and effective things in some circumstances. Honestly, I would not take shit from this guy. The high school me prob would, not now tho.

Or,’you could just keep quiet and ignore him as best you can. Maybe that is the best thing and he’ll just stop. But if not....

Here a couple of ways how you can erode his fake position of power

You don't need to tease me all the time if you like me, just say it (in a confronting manner, alluding to a gay vibe)
Why are you always belittling me, you know that I'm really insecure and that you are much more manly than me (with a smirk, you literally call him out while still maintaining the high ground)
You don't need to brag how strong, manly, popular, educated you are all the time, we get it (making him embarrased for boasting)
Why are you always bragging, you don't need to prove yourself all the time Mark (with a headshake, but delivered in a postivie manner as if you were teaching him something and in a slightly teasing manner)
You know that I'm stronger, smarter, more good looking than you (shocking him in a cocky funny way, he will be put on the spot and probably say with "no I'm smarter", then you can say sure you are with a chuckle)
