I agree with what's been said by intjpua and poncedeleon, but would like to add a couple of things:

1) If you're worried about getting friend zone'd, then take it sexual. Make subtle double entendres and poke fun at her for having a dirty mind if she looks at you funny. But to avoid coming off as needy, like intjpua said, use push-pull. A needy guy just pulls, a guy with choices pushes and pulls.

2) To add to poncedeleon's point, try just speaking slower. For a period of time (how long is up to you) force yourself to say everything about half as quickly as you'd like to. Standup dudes are often speaking really quickly and animatedly, so try slowing down your speech to avoid fitting to that stereotype.

Try to be like the action hero that has the perfect 1 liners instead of the standup. The action hero always gets babes.

Just lay back a bit. Being really funny is awesome for getting everyone's attention, but if everything you say is a punchline, people may not take you seriously.

Use your humor to get attention, then elicit values from the girl. The really good thing about having a rep for being funny is that when you do speak, everyone will listen. Mix in a little more seriousness with your humor.

I have the same problem. My issues are compounded by my humor often being dry intellectual wit, which only smart girls get (though this isn't so bad, since I generally only like smart girls).

The solution I've had reasonable success with is to use it for teasing, as well as entertaining. Picking on a girl in a playful manner is really good for push-pull interactions.

But, at some point you do have to stop being a clown and start being a seducer, or you'll remain the funny guy that she's always happy to see but never goes home with.

People tell me all the time to go do stand-up. I don't see why, but I think I also use humor as a crutch.
