Younger ~~men~~ people are easy to spot, and youth isn't attractive to women like it is to men.

When someone is pushing 30, they want to know their sexual partner can fulfill them, run with kinks, and has experience.

When you look - and admit to being - 19, that triggers a "big sister" response. You're like Bambi to them.

If you want to dodge this in the future, make a fun game of it. Play some cat and mouse. Be coy.

"How old do you think I am?"

You can also use this to gauge what ages they consider appropriate.

I say this as a 26 year old who has had some TERRIBLE sex with 18 - 20 year olds. If I can, I only pick up people 22 - 24 and up.

Don't ever validate yourself defensively. It helps that you joked a bit, but I'm telling you right now it quickly exposes you being insecure about that thing and wanting approval. Even if the response is solid, and not super lame. For example, I'm half azn, if a girl says "oh i heard azn guys have little dicks" trying to be sassy and shit-test me.

If I sit there and go "oh but not all azns are the same.", I'm immediately giving credence to her statement. Instead you need to FLIP IT and put HER ON THE SPOT of validating herself. If shes talking wild shit about your age, you look at her and say "sure, whatever you say grandma. Now why don't you be a good little sugar momma and be nice to the sweet little boy before I break your hips in the bedroom."

Do you see how drastically different that is? Imagine the face on a woman after hearing that shit after running her mouth?

None of these weak ass justifications for why its okay for you to be that age. Why is SHE okay with HER age to you.

Do not EVER get defensive about ANY aspect of yourself, ESPECIALLY aspects of yourself you can't change. This goes deeper then women and into life and accepting yourself period. Trust me man.

What you experienced was not a shit test.

Shit tests are greatly misunderstood. Most of the time, this is what's happening:

A guy is insecure about something and that subject comes up
A guy is too serious and is confronted with a girl who is joking and being playful
A guy is just insecure and the girl is legitimately asking questions to try and get to know him
A girl is actually deliberately trying to gaslight, destabilize, or otherwise put someone off balance.
Or, as in this case, someone subconsciously knows that they aren't interested, and are subconsciously searching for justification.

Short answer here is that you didn't fail a damn thing. Sometimes just can't win with the cards you're dealt.

The gap between 28 and 19 might not matter to some people, particularly to you since you had something you wanted here, but to some people in their late twenties getting closer to 30, the last thing they want to do is hook up with someone who it is barely out of high school.

That's not to say that it's the same with every person in their late twenties or thirties. Clearly some people who are older like to pick up on those or younger.

It's also clear that this woman was not one of those people.

Note: It wouldn't have mattered if you lied about your age. She clearly had a certain impression of you from the very start before you put a number to it.

At this point you were just starting to mortgage your own self respect in an attempt to went over a girl who had made it pretty clear that she wasn't interested.

Sometimes when a girl puts up resistance, she will be amused and could be persuaded by persistence. Sometimes they can't be. It's only by trying to get at a woman like this, that you learn where the line is.

And now you have some data about what it looks like when a woman really is serious about not being interested and yet still likes you as a person.

This is not nothing.and it sounds like she legitimately would have been a really good wingman for you. At least if you were able to get over the fact that she wasn't interested.

Sure, although really it sounds like she was pretty clear from the very start and you invested in it a little longer than you really needed to in trying to tell her that she should disregard your age jokingly.

If you fully ejected, went to talk to other women, and didn't interact with her anymore then that was a mistake because she told you she would help you.

That's social proof, man. Creating your own circle of friends, even if it is temporary, while you travel is one of the best things to help with your game while traveling.

And having a woman like her as a wingman is one of the most helpful things you could have had, especially when you're traveling abroad.

Girls are hardwired to be selective and use any excuse they can; She threw that at you and the problem is.. you reacted:

Confidence and going forward non-reactively is almost irresistible - I would have just totally disregarded her age comment and kept charming her.. get some hugs in, tease her about things, keep her laughing and building attraction, get a kiss, take the lead "we're going now, I need some beer/wine, etc."

At one point you'll both know she's into you and as long as you stay non-reactive you have a very good shot.

Picture this: kissing alone in your room, she's like "you're too young.. keep kissing her, and say, "you bought me beer, later you can buy me diapers and a baby bottle..."
