I'm a firm believer that when in a setting like school it's totally acceptable to wear comfortable clothing... it's just socially acceptable.. as long as the rest of you isn't a mess.

And when you were younger, you were a firm believer in the Tooth Fairy.

Yes style matters. You probably pull off the pajama pants. Style doesn't just mean nice clothes, it's the whole of everything that puts your image together. Clothes, attitude, hygiene, confidence.

You could rock the pj's and be considered more stylish than a man who feels awkward in his nice jeans and boots.

Style is huge in game in my opinion. It dramatically changed me for the better. Without writing 4 paragraphs think about how you observe girls that look slouchy compared to girls that are all dressed up. Its the same way for men.

I used to dress in ripped up oversized clothes. Why? Because they were comfortable as hell, and it saved me money cause I rarely had to buy new stuff. Had a bit of trouble finding dates, but eventually started dating one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen. Few months down the line she lost interest, and I asked her for honest feedback. She explained that it was MY CLOTHES. My fucking clothes. I could have gone out and bought a new wardrobe in a single day, but she lost interest because I dressed like a hobo. I think that while college is one of the few settings where you can get away with dressing badly and won't look out of place, I also think that by doing so, you're missing out on a golden opportunity to dress incredibly well (by comparison) and end up swimming that much deeper in women.

It's only going to be easier when you dress well. Think about getting approached by two girls of equal "potential" if you will. One is wearing pajama pants and a hoodie with her hair up in a messy ponytail or something. The other is wearing ... oh, I don't know ... take your pick from subtly sexy outfits. Hair and makeup done, carrying herself well, etc.

As Daniel Tosh would say, "you're going to make it rain on number two."

I agree that pjs are socially acceptable, but think of it this way; You approach a girl on campus in your pjs and she thinks you're regular (until you start laying game). If you approach wearing a nice outfit, she's already thinking 'this guy looks sharp' before you even say a word.

Having good style in university will have a huge (read: HUGE) effect.

In the real world (making up hypothetically numbers here to make a point), maybe ~40% of men dress nicely, so style doesn't really set you apart that much (especially if you're in a large city). But in university, if only about ~20% of guys have style give or take, paying more attention to how you dress well get you noticed.

If anything, start brushing up on your style now for when you graduate school. From my experience, there's a large percentage of women that won't even bat an eyelash at me unless I'm dressed nicely. This will vary from place to place, but if you're in or around a large city I feel like this is important.

EDIT An old school coach of mine had a mantra that rings true in this case: look good, feel good, play good

This, of all things, has been a constant debate for my fraternity.

I'm in the camp, like ThrowawayPUA, who believes that looking good is essential. I've had girls notice when I change my style and it attracts more attention, and on the converse, I've had girls notice when I don't shave or miss a haircut for more negative attention.

A bunch of guys believe that comfort is key - and some girls do believe that - but I think it's a smaller and smaller minority, and most of our guys have realized that too. You might get lucky and find a girl who thinks gym shorts + a tee are appropriate everyday attire, but they're less and less of the general population.

I haven't worn pajama pants out in public since I was... well, in college. I think at your age, it's kind of expected that you dress silly. You're young. Have you seen how your age group dresses? With those skinny jeans hanging down to your ass and stupid oversized baseball hats...

I remember once when I was in my early twenties, I spent a good chunk of my day at a local coffee shop in a bathrobe, an A-shirt, and flannel PJ pants with fuzzy slippers.

Of course, that starts looking truly bizarre the older you get. I'm almost 35; if I went about my day dressed like that, it'd look like mental illness.
