** Interest Level **
Every interaction between you and another person is a relationship. In that relationship, each participant has their own interest level in the relationship. In other words, am I getting what I want, or do I want more?
When it comes to dating / romantic / courtship, the interest levels play a huge role into every aspect. Are you going to get her number? Will you get a first / second / third date? Will this relationship develop further? Both sides crave equality in the in the interest levels, specifically who ever has the higher interest level desires the other to match it. This is why AFC's chase, and why players are chased.
Women don't want a man who is dependent, needy, wussy, or any other word used commonly to describe an AFC. These things lower her interest level. If her interest level is lower than yours, these behaviors become addictive, you cling to what ever interest may be left. That is, you are at a huge disadvantage. If her interest level is high enough, you may be able to fudge it for awhile, but it will never last. Over time she will respect you less and less, while her interest level drops. This is true for every level of interaction, whether first picking up, or in a long term relationship.
So... You don't want her to have a lower interest level than you because it leads to nasty things. The alternative then, is to drive her interest level up. When her interest level is higher than yours, you control the frame of the relationship. She texts you, she sets up dates, she craves equality in the interest levels and will come after you to get it.
** Make Her Chase You **
First you need to set your frame properly. If you are looking for matching interest levels, you are settling and doing a disservice to every woman out there. You don't want someone who is good enough for you, that's pathetic. How would you feel if a woman said she was with you because you were good enough?
You want her to feel lucky she is with you. If she doesn't feel lucky to be with you, then you aren't the man of her dreams.
So based on interest levels, the way to make her feel lucky is to make her chase you. The way to make her chase you, is to have a lower interest level. Women love this, because you become a challenge to them. They want to prove to themselves that they can get you.
This is why playing hard to get is so successful, on both sides. It creates an apparent disparity in interest levels, that the higher interest craves to fill. From the female perspective it's a shit test, and from the male perspective it's negging. Never let a woman make you prove yourself to her, because if you have to do that you've already lost. Instead, turn it around on her.
