the more you can learn abt the things you watch the more attractive it can become. This is like next level knowledge tho, I would recommend getting commited to looking each episode up on AV Club if theyre well known american series and checking wiki/imdb for trivia on each episode. I don't main this area, but I'm a film person in general so, from experience I can tell you that knowing your shit can actually be attractive and get the conversation going in any direction really.

It's a hobbie, but not what I would consider a good one for self-improvement. A good hobbie for self-improvement has tangible results that others can obviously see. You generally want a hobbie where you are producing something, a hobbie that has clear results.

Train martial art. Make you stronger, you learn to defend yourself, and you learn meditation.

It helps with your self improvement, and inner game.

As a voracious tv show watcher myself, I'd advice you to substitute movies/tv shows with books. I was watching marathons of tv shows non-stop, but after I started reading It has gotten kinda more "stable". I watch vikings, the walking dead, game of thrones, the 100 - you name it, but I try not to start any new ones. That way I have much more time to read. Oh and believe me, if there was one thing I'd consider a magic bullet to supplement your game, I'd say it's reading the self-development books. That and meditation. Meditation is literally a lifehack, not even exaggerating.

I'd go and check out RSDNation book list and you'll be well on your way to growth.

We usually recommend hobbies that involve social interaction with new people. For example, I just saw some men and women practicing frisbee golf in the park. But your hobby doesn't have to be sporting.

Generally, movie watching isn't really a legit hobby anywhere except in Los Angeles. But if you're going to do this, be serious. Consider it education and self-improvement, and it might lead you somewhere serious. For example, check out this MIT Open Courseware called The Film Experience. And try to find a local film club, maybe foreign films (not anime) or something that involves attending film screenings. That way, you will find other people who are just as passionate about films as you are.

"Hobbies" is a loaded word. roflharrisgun has it on the money. As long as you're passionate about what you do, and can talk about it it an interesting way, you are set. Case and point:

Work on improving your self esteem and confidence (AKA inner game), as this will help with AA. You are still young, so you have a lot of time to improve.

If you want suggestions for hobbies, I would recommend something that provides a lot of personal benefit. Don't do anything that you're not passionate about thought, there's no point. I would recommend taking up a musical instrument (learning a few guitar chords and playing a couple pop songs is stupid easy), bodybuilding or anything athletic (running, calisthenics, a sport like basketball, etc), or something crazy and unconventional (skydiving, paint-balling, etc).

Isn't tv so last year? It seems to be the home of older people. Young folks have moved onto smart phones and social media. Movies yes that is reasonable hobby.

Movies/TV are a hobby. If it's chick friendly stuff, it can even help with women.

I don't think it's a problem as long as you are not using it as an excuse to be unsociable. I passionately talk to friends and colleagues about tv shows and movies, I'm sure most people do. It could also lead to socialising opportunies such as outdoor cinemas, film festivals, conventions etc

I ultimately don't think it's that important that you have hobbys that will enable you to meet women, it is more that you are enjoying your life and having fun and then expressing that to women when you do enter social situations.

I would say that it would be better spent in your free time and not your "hobby time". My theory with hobbies is 3-4 days a week at the gym, as that is the easiest way for lots of guys to improve. I spend one night (2-3 hours) on a specific hobby. Improv class was my winter one and it was amazing. Next is salsa lessons.

I also read interesting books that are easy to have conversations about. Right now it's "every body says something" and I've talked with girls lots about it, as well as learned so much about the way conversations are going based on body language.

Don't get me wrong. I watch tv and movies often enough, but it's normally when I can fit it in, not a priority hobby (ie leisure).

Film is a common hobby. However, it's definitely worth asking yourself, "is film really an authentic hobby? or is it just away to stay in my comfort zone?"

There's nothing wrong with doing something that comforts you, but there's a difference between having a comforting hobby and avoiding growth by staying in your comfort zone.

Also, it's good that you're exploring other things out there.
