Today, as part of my last week in town (cannot fucking wait to leave for Carolina for the summer) I traveled about an hour to a nearby town with a few buddies to hang out and catch a movie.

After the movie we went over to the local Target--I needed to buy some clothes hangers. I grab the hangers (and some socks) and I pick the checkout line with a very cute girl working.

FABIO: "Hey, how are you doing?"

GIRL: "I'm good, how are you?"

FABIO: "I'm great."

I make eye contact as I say this and I smile. I'm being very genuine and I have pretty much no intention to 'game' her--I have no 'plan', no canned lines, and no endgame here. I'm just being my own self.

GIRL: "Jeeze, this is a lot of clothes hangers!"

I engaged her first and by doing so I'm sure she felt more comfortable with me--and a conversation has been started.

FABIO: "Yeah, I need some for school."

GIRL: "Where are you going?"

FABIO: "Seattle."

GIRL: "Oh, cool, I have a cousin that went there. UW?"

FABIO: "Nah, the Art Institute. How did she like it?"

GIRL: "She really loves the city."

This conversation is as normal and mundane as they come. I opened the door with just asking her how she was and smiling, and a conversation was initiated about Seattle--the whole time I'm looking in her eyes, and making sure I'm interested in what she's saying to me.

So by this time she's basically done ringing my shit up. There are people behind me, and I've got around a minute to work with. Two things can happen at this point:

  • I say "Thanks, bye." and effectively reject myself.
  • I ask for her name, and she bites or rejects me.

FABIO: "Ah, that's awesome. I'm really looking forward to it. What's your name?"

GIRL: "I'm Kelsi."

FABIO: "Kelsi, my name is Fabio."

I grab the pen out of the little cup at the register and write my number on my receipt.

FABIO: "Here is my number. Call me when you get off work."

GIRL: "Um, okay."

FABIO: "Take care."

And I left. The entire interaction was around 2-3 minutes long. She didn't respond with anything overenthusiastic, no "OH MY KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR! TAKE ME!" I wasn't dressed up. I didn't use any magic line. I was genuine. I was myself. And I went for it.

I see so many guys here who are afraid to just be themselves and go for it--everyone's looking for a magic opener or tricky line to seduce women but most of the time it just doesn't work like that. Was I expecting her to call? Not really. But she did. Just be yourself, be genuinely interested in her, and trust me--she'll notice. It really can be that simple, guys. Just go for it!
