I see it mentioned here every so often, but I wanted to stress the importance of taking care of your appearance. No, I don't just mean your general hygiene and making sure your clothes have been washed this week, I mean actually giving a fuck about what you look like.

I take pride in my appearance and the way I dress. You don't have to wear any stupid blingy necklace or some strange hat to "peacock." In fact, while the idea of it certainly works, to a degree, I generally think that the guys I see in bars and clubs wearing some crazy flashing necklace or other goofy accessory come off as fratty douches more than interesting men. To the point, if you're well dressed (and I mean actually well dressed, not just just out in your cleanest pair of jeans and button up shirt with your dad's hand me down blazer thrown over it), you'll get the same damn attention. You'll also feel a lot better about yourself when you look damn good, and as such, your confidence will get a mighty boost.

A recent anecdote just to illustrate the point:

I was walking down the street a couple nights ago to go meet a friend. I was smoking and passing one of the many bars when a HB7 calls after me. Turns out she just wanted to bum a cigarette. Not a problem, I'll go ahead and give her one, maybe see if anything comes of it. As I'm lighting it for her, her friend, HB9 comes running up to the two of us.

"Hey," she says, "I just wanted to tell you that you have amazing style. Seriously."

"Well thank you darling, that's very sweet of you. I'm [Just], what's your name?"

HB9: I'm [HB9] and this is [HB7]. And no, I'm not going to bum a smoke off of you as well, I just haven't seen many guys around that actually know how to dress. I'm impressed. Can I buy you a beer?

Of course I obliged, sat down with the two of them, had a beer, ejected as I actually did have to leave, but walked away with two #-closes. None of this would have happened were I not well dressed.

And before you ask, no, I'm not incredibly good looking, muscular, or rich, I just know how to dress. And this is far from the first time I've been in a similar predicament.
