One trick I really like is to take on the host mentality at a party. Pretend like it’s your responsibility to make sure everyone’s having a good time and feeling comfortable (it’s not just you feeling awkward in the party setting), hover around the room a bit, make ‘your guests’ feel noticed. Helps me come out of my shell and it usually makes striking up small talk easier if you’re coming from a genuine place too :)

If I see anyone standing alone I always make sure I say hello and introduce myself

One of my fav youtube channels is called farfromaverage. Chicks want the guy who has the confidence in themselves to not be afraid to talk to them even if they are in a group. Though don't feel bad. I struggle as well. I try to just talk & give genuine compliments to both chicks & dudes. It raises your social proof while making you more likeable.

Don't be afraid to find spots to butt into conversations. Lurk discreetly near the group, find the pause, and swoop in.

Another one that I have a lot of success with is "I don't know a soul here." It usually happens to be true for most of the people at the party, and it's a very nonthreatening opener that has never let me down.

Go on YouTube and search up a channel called Scam School, it’s filled with party tricks, brain teasers and all sorts of things to help you start up an interesting conversation

For those big groups, i would recommend that you pick out one person (guy or girl) who is kind of outside the group and talk to them. You can have them introduce you to the rest of the group and then you become part of the group.

Also another question for everyone.

Almost every party I’ve been to has pretty much been just your stereotypical slutty girls everywhere sticking together in there large groups where it’s almost impossible to talk to some alone. Everyone just party hops and drinks all the alcohol the host has then moves to the next one within an hour. While I get this scene has its pros and cons when hanging with your friends, it gets really frustrating when actually trying to meet people. Everyone just acts tough with their friends and girls get drunk and smacked in the first 10 minutes. it’s kind of hard to actually get a real conversation with anyone new.

Is this just a high school thing and people will grow up and be more mature to talk to in college? Because this scene gets old pretty fast when no one actually wants to socialize and everyone goes purely for the quick weed and underage drinking.

There's a reason drinking games exist. Set up some beer pong and just let loose, all the noise will attract a large crowd and you can much more easily talk to girls who came to see you.

It certainly helps if you know at least one of the girls in the large caravan they put themselves into. That can be your entry point which can open the doors to any girl in that group.

In high school parties, I used to just remember, "I'm a different person at school, the person I don't have to be at this party." then I'd look at every other person that way, too. When I got locked into a good conversation, I'd really try to connect with that person and we'd be friends by the end. They'd inevitably want to introduce me to other friends of theirs.

This happened at every party I went to eventually, even if it was in the next city over! I'd show up and someone would say, "Aren't you that ImJustSo guy?!"

It wasn't that way at first, but it's something I built up without realizing what I was doing. That was 20 years ago, but when I want a good time when I go out, that's what I still do. I connect with everyone, get passed around, get invited other places, and I just have to say "yes".
