Currently dating a 34 year old (I'm 25) I'll say older women are much less drama, as long as they don't have family/kids around. I can't speak for women in their 40s and up, but I notice women in their 30s know what they want and really aren't that different from 20-somethings.

They don't care about the games, you just need to be sweet, confident, and charming. Don't try to pretend you're older than you are, because then she might aswell date an older man. Being with older women I find I can more be myself and they tend to be attracted to positive, unique, and uplifting personalities. Everyone is really, but age and maturity starts to make the bullshit fade away.

Less insecurity, they don't need men to make them feel good about themselves, they aren't trying to take advantage of you or social situations as much through their looks. Honestly so far, I like dating 30-somethings more than girls in their younger 20s. Way less drama.

As for approaches, I find they work out so much better. Really just be yourself, be straightforward, and don't be a dick. I don't escalate things any quicker than they are naturally. Be confident, strong body language, smile, ask questions, show interest in her life, make her laugh and feel good about herself, find common interests, simple shit.

You're young, ambitious, and full of energy...pitch it. Now you're making me want to go find me another cougar.

Generally, you can be more direct with your intentions, although older women tend to be sophisticated enough to read signals louder, so you don't need to be explicit.

I favor the opinion approach: "I'm looking for a female opinion on this. What do you think of women who date slightly younger men?" Say it with confidence a big grin. She'll know what you're asking. She's either DTF or she's not, and she'll definitely let you know.

More or less, I game as I normally would. This class of women are usually the easiest because you are already disqualified as much more than a "play thing" right off the bat. If I had to pick a style, id say direct game works best in my experience, but really, I don't find it's a hugely different type of game vs what you would normally do.

I've always debated in my head whether going after much older women would be worth it, I guess it would be kind of hot as long as she was still in good shape because they would be more experienced, will put you through less shit and are probably very horny.

However I then think of the reality, I would be a 20 year old virgin fucking a 30-40 year old who has a child, who is a full blown adult with plenty of life experience compared to me who is basically still a child, it just seems to make me feel uneasy about the whole thing added to the social stigma of it from peers if anyone found out. Depends on the actual age, marital status and logistics (divorced? separated? childless? living with children? sharing custody of kids with the Omnipresent Other Guy, a.k.a. the father of the kids?) of the woman you're talking about. The terms you used can apply to any woman over 25, depending on who you ask.
