you are overthinking this, and trying to control a narrative,

This is not only draining, it also gives you illusion of control (which is what a lot of pua sells), and gives you an illusion that you need control to get into a healthy relationship.

In reality how people perceive us is often very different from how we perceive ourselves from their perspective and what we are trying to show them, and trying to control this image often backfires in giving at least awkward vibes if not bad ones. For instance, i would take this non responding as orange/red flag, especially if repeated.

Instead of going for control, try acceptance that you are not in control, allow yourself to be surprised and be a good sport if it doesn't click.
