This has essentially become an entire routine and opener for me, I ask people around me how often a bartender will get hit on in a given night. Invariably they overestimate, guessing, "5-10 times", "hundreds of times", "20 times". This is my excuse to ask the barmaid whose answer is always something like, "really 2-5 times a night."

Number one, this is a cool way to talk to people around you, including the barmaid. Number two, this is a lesson about the apparent unattainability of beautiful women as hired guns - no one hits on barmaids/waitresses because everyone thinks that everyone hits on them. I really think that if you interact with your barmaid on an interesting level and don't repeat the same shit all the other guys say, you can get in there relatively easy.
