So this happened today at my gym and I’m not sure if it’s anything or if I’m just overanalyzing it.

There’s a narrow entrance path when you walk into the gym. At the end of that path, the reception desk is on the right and there’s a table on the left where people usually put their bags before taking them to the rack.

I walked in through the entrance and went to the table on the left to take my phone and water bottle out of my bag. After that, I walked straight toward the rack to put my bag away.

As I was moving from the table to the rack, I noticed from my peripheral vision that someone was sitting at the reception. So I naturally looked toward the reception desk, and I saw the receptionist looking directly at me, possibly even checking me out. Her head was turned toward me; it wasn’t just a quick glance with the eyes. Her whole neck was turned in my direction.

Our eye contact met and we held it for about 2–3 seconds. Her expression was neutral, not smiling or anything.

After I put my bag in the rack, the reception area is no longer visible from that angle, so the moment ended there. Later during my workout I’m pretty sure I noticed her looking toward the gym floor once or twice through the entrance.

For context: she’s new at the reception. I’ve been training at this gym for a long time but I hadn’t seen her before.

So should I try to start a conversation with her the next time I see her, or is it better to just wait and see how she behaves over the next few times I enter the gym?

I’m wondering, is this just normal receptionist behavior (checking who’s entering the gym), or could it be a sign of interest? Or is it simply too little information to read anything into it?
