Obviously, approach anxiety really stems from the fear of rejection or just plainly looking awkward. The greatest PUA's will tell you that you really should feel like you can engage anyone, whether they be young, old, male or female. This can just be as simple as walking down the grocery aisle, stopping and having a brief small-chat with them (which, by the way, is another excellent exercise).

The other day, I was driving down the road and thought to myself, "why is it so awkward to wave at a random person driving down the road?" Something as simple as waving and smiling instills a feeling of uncomfortability inside me, but why I have no idea.

I think it's because if you did wave, you would be concerned with how they would think of you. Perhaps they'd wonder what was wrong with this guy, whom they've never met, waving at them for no apparent reason. Obviously that's a negative thought, which is what we are afraid of when approaching attractive girls; we are afraid that they will think negatively towards us and reject us.

So, you can see the correlation between the negative thought that a girl might have with you approaching them and randomly waving at a stranger. The key to doing this is what's been reiterated over and over in this reddit:

Just don't give a fuck.

Why do you care what someone driving past you in a car for a millisecond will think of you? You'll NEVER see that person ever again, so why should you care what they think of you being nice, waving and smiling at them?

Think of each time you wave at someone on the road as a mini set opening. Drive down the road, wave and smile at passing cars or at the people sitting next to you in traffic and keep doing it until you feel that awkwardness go away.
