The entire first panel about PUA being "evil" or scummy.

PUA basically boils down to a set of tools that help with attraction, being social, and communicating in a way that would naturally create and escalate sexual situations. It could be used in a moral and ethical way, as a means to better yourself and be more outgoing, or it could be used to manipulate, lie, and have completely self-serving goals.

It's basically like saying math or science is bad because they were used to revolutionize warfare in ways that have been detrimental to mankind. It ignores the flipside where diseases have been cured and food has become abundant in large portions of the world.

XKCD is a really smart comic because it often has clever twists on academic, scientific, or mathematical related subjects. In this case though he's trying to pose a "logical" take on seduction (which inherently is a largely emotional subject), and it just makes the author look like he has no idea what the hell he's talking about.

that's not my point. I'm not defending negging. I'm criticizing the comic. It's a completely washed out attempt to criticize PUA by just having a bunch of assholes treat each other like shit. He was a dick for negging, but at least he had (somewhat) positive intentions, she had nothing to gain but schadenfreude.

Its the difference between feeding a tiger a fruit or a mouse as an example of why its better to give people fruit. You're still better off not putting your hand near a tigers mouth.

Or for example, someone makes fun of napoleon for being short. Napoleon gets angry and develops a complex, then takes over europe killing millions of people. Is the lesson supposed to be, "don't make fun of people for being short"? No. It's that humanity is a bunch of dicks. That's all I get from this comic.
