Tested approach that has worked for me

This is a routine that has been field tested a lot, I think I first heard of it from "The Rules of The Game." I remember testing it myself, "hey I need a woman's opinion, do you like this jacket in white or black?" They liked the black. "I think you're right. Now you're my shopping consultant." Come to think of it, I was wearing that black jacket today.

This is a classic opinion opener, and sort of oblique compliment, you are asking for her sense of style which is something she created for herself. And women love to shop with somebody else's money.

Hey man,

First off, good job getting out there and actually opening and approaching. 99% of guys talk the talk or read about this stuff but never actually go out and do it.

In terms of this opener, I don't particularly like it, though I do like that it gets guys out there actually approaching. But tactically speaking, I'm not a huge fan. Too limited in scope and too many disadvantages.

If this was counter strike, think of this as a shotgun: Easy to use, useful in certain scenarios, but ultimately not a tool that should be your bread and butter because there are too many other better tools to use.

Keep in mind I'm coming from a big picture, birds-eye-view having seen this a LOT in students.

Here's why I don't like this opener:

It's REALLY easy to get frame controlled with this opener (e.g., let her lead the conversation) because you're asking for her opinion. That can very easily lead to her giving you ADVICE... and now you're in a pretty disadvantageous frame. You can frame control you way out of it, of course, but 99% of guys learning game aren't good enough to do that.
Most people are going to use this because "i think youre cute" seems WAY too scary in comparison. While I empathize with the AA inherent in a direct opener, you also grow a LOT more by pushing your comfort zone. You can start off with something like this but you will stagnate HARD very quickly if you keep using it as a crutch. Think of this opener like training wheels. You should be pushing to get rid of them as soon as you possibly can or you're going to hold your development back. You started that you don't have any AA... if that's the case, then going direct is going to help you a lot more than this opener. Bottom line: If you can swim, take off the floaties, they'll slow you down.
This opener puts unnecessary focus on the OPENER. Remember that the purpose of the opener is to OPEN. That's it. That's why "hi" is often the best opener. Because it very quickly moves you to step 2: transitioning. Openers that "carry" you a bit are good training wheels when you're brand new, but they tend to make guys focus on the opening and NOT moving the set forward, which is the entire point. I don't want to just open, i want to push to the next step.
This opener is inherently limited to women who are nearby browsing in a shop or happen to be standing near you. You can't, for example, chase a woman down on the street to ask her this question. And the more day game you do, the more you realize that that's EXACTLY what most day game sets are about. Most women are NOT conveniently standing next to you in a clothing store. For the ones that are, sure, situational openers are great. But don't get stuck being a one-trick-pony or you'll be severely limiting yourself.

Yes, this is a tried and true method. As to the poster who asked about doing this to several girls in the same store -- you don't. In fact, you don't even have to do it inside the store. You can be inside of the food court. Just mix it up. And, besides, if you've made a lot of purchases at that store, you should be all right. Just "feel it out." Good luck.

You can do this at a party too. "I just got my hair cut, what do you think. I can't get an honest opinion from any of my friends - they're too nice."

Of course, I don't like these "semi-approaches" anyway - I would prefer to just say "hey you look cute, what's your name"

I could see this working but how would you transition into getting a date or number? Most of the time I think the girl would just reply in a friendly fashion and give her opinion, but when you drop the date or exchange names things would just be the same as if you were to do that at the start and tell her she was cute initially. What's the difference?

You only open girls in the same store though, wouldn't the store owners kick u out after a while of not shopping?
