Yesterday in a separate thread I responded to someone's question about checking in the day of your date to make sure it was still on. My suggestion, that I always use and always works, was “I text or write, usually saying "Hey I'm really looking forward to having some time with you later today." just to make sure everything is still on. But also it does show that I'm excited and looking forward to seeing them.” Afterwards several people commented that you shouldn't say you are excited because this "validates" the other person. I feel there is an important learning opportunity for me here that I'm currently not understanding as well as I'd like. Can you all please help me better understand "validation", what that means, the potential dangers of validating someone at the wrong time or circumstance, but also when do you want to validate them?
