It's my opinion that if you want to stay friends with someone DO NOT get in a relationship with them. You aren't stuck in a cage and there are other people you could be going after.

Know that you can also put someone in the friendzone. It's okay to have female friends as long as you don't harbor any feelings for them. Maybe the easiest thing to do in your situation is to "write-off" the women you knew before your transformation.

At the party as the women were whispering to each other, as you as you made eye contact you could've walked right up to them and casually asked what they were talking about.

People need to fundamentally understand what the friend zone is.

The friend zone is where girls put guys who haven't made a move on said girl.

If you think of it like that it's easy to see why you end up in the friendzone.

You haven't made it clear, explicitly clear you like the girl, so now you're in the fz.

Okay, so girl #1 asks girl #2 about you. Girl #2 says, "he's my guy friend." Was girl #1 attractive? Was she giving you any other signals? While she could have just been making conversation, there is also a possibility that Girl #1 was interested in you.

You need to be focusing on the women around you. Stop focusing on yourself!

People take the friend zone waaaay too seriously. Just because a girl thinks of you as a friend doesn't mean you can't make her think otherwise. As some people have already mentioned, maybe you haven't put any moves on her so she has no other choice but to label you as just a friend.

I've hooked up with "friends" before. My best advice would be to just go up to her and tell her you think she's cute and you want to take her out on a date sometime. And bam, you're suddenly not in the friend zone anymore. You are now a potential suitor. If she says yes, great. But if she says no, you can just be cool about it and say "cool, we'll just be great friends then." And now suddenly, you are the one who put her in the friend zone. And you will be surprised how much girls will suddenly be interested in you after you've "friend zoned" them.

You can come to a point in your life where you realize that the "friendzone" will only exist with any woman that you have chosen to create this relationship with.

As a 33yo man, this term does not and cannot apply to me anymore. The reason is simply because of how I present myself to women. They are either my friend, because I've chosen that position for them, or they're a woman that wants me.

Obviously there's the other women, the ones who I actually have physical relationships with, but let's not count those in this equation.

I will say that some women will try to put me in the friendzone, but here's what happens when they do it. I say something along the lines of, "I am not just your friend. You fuckin say that like there was ever a chance between us, and if there were then I would've put the moves on you. So I'm your friend, not just your friend. Have I ever tried to touch you sexually? Have I ever tried to kiss you? No, then don't fuckin lump me into some category with little boys. That's high school shit and I am a man."

So, here's what happens when I say that, they usually begin coming on to me hard. What it sounds like I said is, "I've never tried touching you before and that's why we're friends."

What they seem to hear is, "I am not attracted to you, sorry."

And their reaction is, "Not fuckin attracted to me huh? WELL I WASN'T ATTRACTED TO YOU EITHER, BUT NOW YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE SEX WITH ME, BUSTER!"

Edit for clarification: These women actually are just women I consider only friends, or I actually would've put moves on them. The only reason I say what I do to them is because the difference between a friend and being a friendzone is about a zillion gallons of respect/disrespect. If a woman says some friendzone shit to me, then I no longer consider her a friend. She has just disrespected me and implied I am unattractive. Well, fuck that, I give back what I'm given, which is that same feeling and disrespect.
