From the petition:

In Canada, and globally, women are the fastest-growing population in prisons (Sawyer, 2018).

This is a funny way of saying that the vast majority of people in prison are men.

Changing this situation to a more equal one will cause the very stat they say they are against to increase.

In order for the imprisonment rates of women and men to be equal, either significantly more women will need to be imprisoned every year or significantly less men. Either of these two conditions will cause the rate of female imprisonment to rise compared to the rate of male imprisonment.

In fact, it looks like the majority of men in canadian prisons are fathers as well (53%).

From the years of 2001 to 2019 there were an average of 33 833 people in canadian prisons yearly. Only 7% of these were women.

This means that each year there were on average 31,464 men incarcerated and 2,369 women.

That works out to an average 16,676 fathers (53%) and 1,562 mothers (67%) in canadian prisons each year during the 20 years worth of data analyzed.

Clearly this is not a gendered issue, or at least not the way that feminists seem to think it is.

So why not a petition for all parents, not just women?

Male Disposability: When society default cares more for the well-being of women than for the well-being of men.

"Helping mothers is important. Fathers can help themselves."
