TIL the term "Carceral Feminism". It means using police, courts, prison incarceration as tools of feminism.

There seems to be a common assumption in the broader culture that boys are constantly being encouraged and celebrated, so we all must make a point to encourage and celebrate girls as much as possible to bridge that perceived gap.

I don't recall being encouraged and celebrated much as a boy. Quite the opposite: I was generally criticized or castigated, or at best ignored, when I failed to be proactive and performant. Is my experience unusual in that regard? Are girls really encouraged and celebrated less than boys?

[–]thereslcjg2000left-wing male advocate 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel the same way. Even in elementary school, I always felt much, much less encouraged and celebrated than my female classmates. To me it seems like the assumption they boys are so regularly encouraged and celebrated comes from no place other than the unproven patriarchy theory.

One of the problems with 'equity'. It's based on assumptions and statistics that are always behind the curve.

Equity

"Oh, boys are always encouraged and celebrated, so encouraging and celebrating girls to the exclusion of boys is fair because we're balancing an imbalance."

Equality

"Oh, boys are encouraged and celebrated so we make sure we should do the same for girls while still doing it for boys."

I'd like to think that nobody in this sub would have a problem with the latter and that most of the reason we're here is because of instances like the former.

Well you're a wonderful writer and I'm glad you're around to speak about your experiences. I hope you will consider writing more from as a left-wing male advocate, both here and in your local community and country.

Because this

If you want to oppose the ever growing feminist agenda, there's only right wing parties that resonate

is a huge problem. Men should have more options than to kowtow to a philosophy that pretty clearly has contempt for them in order to succeed and I know that in my previous jobs in female-dominated workplaces, it was absolutely necessary.

Moreover, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more men swerve to the right, the more feminists can claim that men are more likely to be heartless, or less empathetic, or - let's face it - just plain 'bad'. The granularity of thought required to realize that men have been pushed into that position is rarely, if ever, applied to men by feminists.

Which is weird, because they apply that granularity to every other identity type except white people. Almost as if there's some kind of bias...

Yeah big time, like I have no choice but to swing towards more right media, not that I want to but because feminism has fucked up the left. Same with voting. If I was American, lets say, how the hell could I vote for democrats, they'd enact all sorts of crap like title IX but thats not like I want to vote for trump who is a moron but at least doesn't pander to this shit and has openly said he is not a feminist. But he's literally a cartoon character, I have to vote for this guy? Also I end of having to defend Trump, NOT because I like him but because the left MAKE UP shit about him, and I need to defend true facts than and proper journalism, even though I don't want to defend him per say. E.g. like the media just made that pussy grab shit up, now I have to defend that, even though I don't want to, just to show how biased and agenda driven the media is as he never said that.

[–]peanutbutterjamsleft-wing male advocate 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

like I have no choice but to swing towards more right media, not that I want to

You...absolutely have a choice. Just read both right and left and take the time to filter out the propaganda. You can never practice too much critical thought.

feminism has fucked up the left

If you think that, why are you even here? This is for left wing people and you're here talking about how you "have to be" right.

Feminism hasn't fucked up the left. Feminism doesn't prevent me from advocating for personal freedoms and economic equality. It doesn't prevent me from keeping my value system or enacting it in the most effective way possible.

Has it squandered the momentum of the left? Sure. But the only way it's 'fucked up' the left is for us to stop being leftists.

Same with voting.

Nope.

If I was American, lets say, how the hell could I vote for democrats

Because Trump shits in the mouth of democracy every day and as a leftist, democracy is something you hold dear? Because Trump is galloping America to a Putin-level of oligarchy at an unprecedented rate?

There's lots of good reasons.

Look, I'm a fervent Bernie supporter but I'd be damned sure to vote for Biden come November because while he's almost certainly a senile rapist neoliberal, he doesn't actively want the death of an institution that millions of Americans have died to protect and that the world will be better off preserving.

Also I end of having to defend Trump, NOT because I like him but because the left MAKE UP shit about him, and I need to defend true facts than and proper journalism

Do you also defend Biden and Sanders and Warren and Clinton and all the others who have shit made up about them by people on the right?

like the media just made that pussy grab shit up

In what way? I've heard the audio and seen the video of him coming out of the bus after the comment was made.

[–]czerdec 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah big time, like I have no choice but to swing towards more right media

I'm happy to help create a leftist version of media narrative. Keeping all the good stuff, constructive critique of capitalism with the understanding that until the coronavirus, even Marx thought it worked relatively well, but eliminating the gender feminism in favor of egalitarian principles.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Much appreciated insight. Funny how they have no idea that they benefit from privilege and special treatment everywhere they go, and still find ways to victimize themselves. Women seem to have a hugely disproportionate power of victimization while men have absolutely none, even when they’re really and harshly being discriminated against.

"Men's weakness is their facade of strength; women's strength is their facade of weakness." - Warren Farrel.

[–]Cookiedoughjunkie 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Should have been like me. I was argumentative against stupid teachers. Nice until then.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exams consisted of tedious, long, methodical information write downs, no room for opinions, the longer the better usually

Good. You can have opinions after you know what you're talking about. Education has swung too far away from knowing the material into having opinions about the material. Expertise and knowledge is being replaced with personal whimsy.

If you want to oppose the ever growing feminist agenda, there's only right wing parties that resonate.

Agreed, and it's part of the reason extremist right wing parties are on the rise. It's concerning. That and the automatic and derogatory labelling of concern about the effect immigration has on smaller communities as 'racism'.

[–]insane_gravy 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If you want to oppose the ever growing feminist agenda, there's only right wing parties that resonate.

No, fuck that shit. I won't align with a political ideology that includes fascists.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What retarded logic, being conservative aligns you just as much with fascists and their crimes as being left wing means that you align yourself with communists and their crimes.

[–]insane_gravy 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The right has been slowly allowing fascists into their ranks for decades (just look at the Republican party). They make natural allies for the capitalists. At least the marxists are far more likely to defend my interests.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But a lot of sheep will. Nazism didn't spring from the forehead of Drexler, it was a reaction to the emergence of Marxist parties, themselves a reaction to the poverty and destruction caused by WW1.

[–]czerdec 28 points29 points30 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Given the "women are wonderful effect" it would be extremely weird if girls weren't beneficiaries of prejudice in school.

[–]magus678 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It suffuses everything.

The general un-acknowledgement of it is near criminal considering how much people love to talk about biases and prejudice in nearly any other context.

[–]thereslcjg2000left-wing male advocate 38 points39 points40 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

And the scary thing is, there are people who still advocate for making school more girl-centric.

[–]Cookiedoughjunkie 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The future is female.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes like for example in the country mentioned above (the UK), people opposing the switching away from coursework towards instead more exams. Luckily it did go through. Not sure I like the new system though in terms of being the best, although it is probably a bit better for boys than the old was

I will add, and this is important, in light of the study above, the narrative normally peddled for all of these years to explain the gender gap has been only end of year exams is good for boys/ bad for girls, and coursework favours girls a lot.. this is a long held fact and the rationale was that girls work nice and steady and organised while boys are lazy with coursework but the exam things makes them competitive so they do good. They also said stuff like poor girls they have low self esteem about exams.

Well this clearly proves one reason why coursework favours girls... they get more marks!!. I got this a lot when I was a kid, and I will be going back to my school to tell them about it.

[–]TC1827 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So not only do women have a education system that favours them, and more scholarships, and more oppurtunities due to affirmative action, and an easier time in their school years due to dating dynamics favouring them, they also get marked easily when being assessed.

And the worst part is, they still expect their male partners to out earn them, despite women essentially running the inner lap vs men running the outer lap. Men are still expected to be their ATMs

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it will backfire the end for the west is coming

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Waiting for the mental gymnastics to show why this is actually harmful to girls in some way

[–]Egalitarianwhistle 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well it is if they are consistently grading girls to a lower level. That's not helpful. It's like purposefully losing to someone at chess- a huge boost to their self esteem but it doesn't actually make them better at Chess.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So if they graded them worse than they actually are would that make them better ?

[–]Egalitarianwhistle 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would be cheating. The idea is learning is similar to chess. The teacher gives the student the rules and basic teaching/learning principles. The rules must be consistent for everyone.

[–]DevilishRogue 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is so much worse than just this article. Boys are:

  • regarded as less well performing even if they are better performing

  • regarded as less disciplined even if they behave better

  • given lower grades for better work

  • given lower grades for the same quality work

  • discriminated against in terms of teaching

  • told off five times more for the same behaviour

  • not taught to their strengths

etc.

[–]rannerbeer[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great comment, very informative.

The Motis blog caught my eye. And this one quote from a feminist is a beauty: "Unlike these authors, we don't view this as a fight – to find out who is worse off." Seriously? 30-plus years' worth of education reform has been predicated on the idea that girls have it worse, reforms demanded by feminist groups, and now feminists are coming out with crap like this?

Feminists are fucking shameless.

[–]HaveAGr8D4y 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When pitching the whole 'male advocacy' shtick I always ask people the same question. (if you were born after 1990)

Who were the 'better' or 'smarter' students in grade school all the way to high school between boys and girls?

Everyone always says girls. Always. They mature faster and their maturity and behavioral standard sets an unrealistic learning environment for boys in developmental years.

[–]mellainadiba 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Write to your local schools about this, and ask if there is training on this? Tweet a school

[–]peanutbutterjamsleft-wing male advocate 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Problem is that people are scared to do that because being seen as anti-feminist is social suicide and could also affect your job prospects if you live in a smaller town.

[–]mellainadiba 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I will add, they have said that end of year only exams is good for boys/ bad for girls, and coursework favours girls a lot.. this is a long held fact and the rationale was that girls work nice and steady while boys are lazy with coursework but the exam things makes them competitive.
